WTF ! This is not right !
A few years ago I talked with a gentleman and he told me that his ex-wife had him called into court and she decided she wanted alimony. The kids were already gone and he was already divorced for 20 years ! By the time court was finished, he had to start paying her alimony ! This is in California.
Alimony should be limited to 5 years at the most, enough time for a non-working spouse to get trained, go to school and then hit the job market and work to support themselves. Other than the children, the former couple are considered strangers under the law and should be treated as such.
When I got remarried a few years ago, I set the prenup with a severability clause and that no alimony would be paid. It was also set where whoever owns the assets keeps the assets regardless of gain or loss in value.
In my divorce, I refused to pay alimony. Not even the 1$ a year noose they like to use. I swore that I dwould fight until every last cent was gone and told the lawyers (mine and hers) they wouldn’t ever get paid if they pushed the issue any further, and the issue was dropped and Inever heard another peep about it during the remaining proceedings.
I find it hard to believe a judge could make such a ruling without consent of the payer, and if they do make such rulings, i find it hard they survive the ride home. This shit is insane!

Nice! Sad to have to do it, but good job of CYA!!!
I am presently in the 5th of the 8th year of paying alimony to my ex. @ 1,200 per month. I am on time every month giving her the money but she insists that I not claim these dollars when I do taxes. In other words, she wants the full amount tax free.
Crap, it never ends...... It is going to get very interesting when I write the final check...........
Sheesh!!!!!
MFO
Me and my now wife did a prenup (mutually agreed on) similar to what you did and a bit more. I have seen enough divorce horror stories.
The individual you mentioned had bad advice when he divorced. Always get a court order limiting the jurisdictional period.
