Argh.
Now we are giving them planes to turn on us? Just great America!
Ping
No thanks. They should get what they are accustomed to flying - second-hand Russian birds. They will still be better equipped than Iran.
They have to dig them out of the desert
Israel is just going to have to shoot these down at some point in the future. Burn that bridge when we get to it, I guess.
There is plenty of the Russian stuff floating about the global arms market.
They probably will go to Israel, but not in the manner in which you’d hope.
That is true.
How long before they hand them over to Iran??
I realy hate the BS comments that goes with this.
The F16 was ment to be our low-end export fighter.
And we are in the process of phasing them out of our service and replacing them.
If we were SELLING [not giving] F22 or F35, then the BS would make sense.
We are selling F16s to a country that is not as close to the Persians [Iran] as the propagandists claim.
Iraq is Iran’s traditional enemy, and the base of oposition to the Qom school of islamic rule is in Karbala/Najaf [Iraq].
There is evidence that Iraq and Iran are cozying up to each other. As soon as we leave Iraq will fall apart. As of January 2010, the two countries have signed over 100 economic and cooperation agreements.

We should be sending those F-16s to Taiwan to bolster their air defense.
In March 2008, Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad became the first Iranian president to visit Iraq since Iran’s 1979 Islamic revolution. Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki has made several state visits to Iran since 2006.Iran has an embassy in Baghdad and three consulate generals in Sulaimaniya, Arbil and Karbala. Iraq has an embassy in Tehran and three consulate generals in Kermanshah, Ahvaz and Mashhad
They are next door neighbors.
France’s biggest trading partner in 1939 was Germany - until September.
The Soviet Union’s biggest trading partner in 1941 was Germany - until late June.
Iran and Iraq have always had trade, legal or illegal, even when they were at war with each other.
You might want to compare the deals with the GCC and Iran. You will find that they are comparable.
And the F16 is not top-of-the-line, it is what we are decomissioning as obsolete...
Israel doesn’t want more F16s, they are buying F35s and tried to get F22s. That was blocked because they keep selling US tech to China.
Every ally we have in that region has as-good or better than what we are SELLING to Iraq.
And none of them has as good as what we use, we don’t sell the top-of-the-line to the ME. We do not export the best until we have replaced it with better. Lessons learned from 1979.
When America sells weapons to Iraq remember Prime Minister al-Maliki and Ahmadinejad together. Those F-16s should be going to Taiwan.
So.
Can show you photos of Gorby with Ronny too. Even smiling.
Iran is not officially at war with anyone.
And Iraq is in no position to push Iran until it has a credible military including an air defense.
Selling Iraq aircraft that the USAF is turning into target drones is the sensable level of tech. Low enough that it is easy for US to kill while better than what Iran/Syria have.
You are aware that the USAF is now converting F16s into QF16s [target drones]?
Iraq’s force deployment is concentrated on the Iran/Syrian borders. Opposite Kuwait/Saudi/Jordan they only have Border Police. And Kuwait has enough FA-18s to take out what Iraq plans to buy in the next decade...
Or the Jordanians could with their F16s that they have had since the 1980s.
Or the Saudi F15/F16s that they have had since the 1980s...
IMHO, the Saudis or Jordanians should not have American technology. I think there is a few who agree with me.
