I've always assumed there was at least some islamic involvement in the mexican drug trade. After all, heroin and hash from Afghanistan and Turkey is distributed in the U.S. and some of it comes through the mexican border. I'm certain people from the aforementioned countries are "on the ground" in mexico competing for markets for their products... using whatever means necessary.
It's a win-win for them: make money, kill infidels.
Game Over!
I am applying to a doctoral program in October and my proposed research/dissertation thesis for my required Research Statement will attempt to further confirm such a growing convergence between international criminal groups/organizations, specifically the two largest and most powerful Mexican drug vartels, and Islamic terrorist groups and the ramifications of such a convergence not only on/for America but for Mexico itself (e.g.: the two largest Mexican could set aside their difference, join forces, and either literally topple the Mexican government and take the country over themselves or back/support and then place a crime lord to replace the current or future Mexican president. We have long been concerned with Afghanistan being a narco-state run by terrorists...consider a true narco-state run by Mexican drug cartels....with Islamic terrorism connections....on the Mexican-American border).
