The Contract from America was a hot topic in the 5th District this week. Jason Sager and his opponent faced off twice this week. First, on Tuesday, at the First Hernando Republican Club; and then again Thursday at a debate hosted by the Pasco County Republican Party.
At both of these events, the candidates were asked about the Contract from America. At the First Hernando Republican Club, the question was, Will you sign the Contract from America?
Jason Sager gave a short answer, I already have. His opponent also gave a very short, direct answer to the question, Yes.
Then, two nights later, this same issue came up at the candidate debate in Pasco County.
Jason Sager was asked, "Why did you add your name to the Contract from America? Whats that all about? Why do you like it?
Jason explained the story behind the Contract from America, and expressed his support for the Contract and the principles that are in that document.
Jason's opponent was asked, Are you familiar with the Contract from America and what are your thoughts on it? His answer was, I have not signed that. There are few things that I will sign to make a pledge to you. One was to eliminate earmarks. Second is, pro-life. He went on This pledge that Jason signed said that ... he would repeal any law he thought was unconstitutional.
Now, there are several inconsistencies here. First, for one audience, the opponent says he will sign the Contract from America, and two nights later, for a different audience, he says he wont.
There are additional inconsistencies between Jason's opponents words on those two nights. At the First Hernando Republian Club on Tuesday, he said, I promise to go to war with all the unconstitutional laws that have been passed. And two nights later, in Pasco County, he thought that repealing unconstitutional laws is a bad idea. Thats not something he's willing to promise to do for Pasco County Republicans.
Jason explained his position like this, First of all, the Contract from America doesnt include anything about repealing all unconstitutional laws. That's in the Tenth Amendment Pledge, not the Contract from America. Even so, I thought that promising to repeal unconstitutional laws was one of the least controversial pledges that I have taken. I really thought that the oath of office covered that point. It seems to me that would be a part of upholding and protecting the Constitution of the United States.' Standing against unconstitutional law is supposed to be the guiding principle of Republicanism. We must change the course of this nation and return Truth and Honor to our House. It starts here at home.
Click through for the Video. It's great. Jason Sager is consistent. He always has the same message. He doesn't carry any notes to these forums and debates. He answers from his knowledge of the issues and of the Constitution, and from his heart.
His opponent has to read his opening statements and his answers from his notes. Maybe he should invest some of his special interest campaign money in a teleprompter.
Speaking of campaign money. Our opponent is very well financed by Washington special interest PACs and by a couple of developers here in Florida. Those two sources make up the bulk of his campaign contributions. But he has raised over $100,000 in two months.
Sager has said he won't take PAC money in the primary, and he is financed 100% by individual contributors. Contributors are sponsoring links on the Chain of the Constitution which is growing. He will be carrying a physical reminder of every contributor with him to his office in Washington if he is elected.
I can’t stand John Kerry and would LOVE to see him unseated. MA has so many lifetime keeps.

that was an heiress worth about $300 million;fathered two children with her, then got an anullment so he could marry the widow of a Republican senator who had inherited his family fortune worth over $800 million.Beats working for it.
