According to a new Denver Post poll, Republicans likely to vote in next month’s gubernatorial primary like former Congressman Tom Tancredo over scandalized former Congressman Scott McInnis, prompting Tancredo to tell the Post he’s “surprised and flattered” and that both McInnis and Evergreen businessman Dan Maes should get out of the race.
“Neither can win the general election [against Democrat John Hickenlooper],” Tancredo told the Post after he beat out McInnis 29 percent to 19 percent, with 13 percent going to Maes. The other three choices for “strongest Republican gubernatorial candidate” – Jane Norton, Josh Penry and Bruce Benson – got 11 percent, 7 percent and 3 percent respectively.
“I want us as a party to get this governor’s seat. If I can do it, believe me I will,” added Tancredo, whose outspoken and often controversial positions on illegal immigration have made him a conservative lightning rod over the years. Last weekend Tancredo put GOP Senate candidate Ken Buck in an awkward position by claiming at one of his fundraisers that Barack Obama represents the greatest threat to the United States.
Buck first called the comment a “Tancredoism,” but two days later said “there is a lot of truth to what Tom Tancredo said.”
Colorado Republicans have to move quickly or we are going to have a Governor Hickenlooper in November.

And Governor Hickenlooper will be followed by Governor Salazar and that will be the end of what will be then called the “American period” in Colorado.

It burns my grits that I KNOW if McInnis were the fair haired dem-o-rat candidate that nothing would have been heard about this.
That said, it sure looks like McInnis took a 300k bribe from a muzzie foundation.
Yes DC, the Dems can get away with murder (literally). We have to play by the rules. Just listening to Caplis and Silverman, they had the Hasan daughter on who is an MD. Sounds like a very pleasant person. She stated that McInnis was supposed to do a lot more work for that $300K than he did. I was half listening/working around the house, so I didn’t catch all of it. If you are interested, I’m sure they (C & S) will be recapping in the remaining hours of their show.
JMO, but I definitely don’t think McInnis is going to cut it and Maes doesn’t seem to have what it takes. I hope someone else is able to jump in. Don’t know if that’s possible at this point or not.
The hard part is getting the two existing candidates out of the way so a replacement can be put in there. We can’t let this slip away.
I seriously doubt Tancredo could win a general election.
If McInnis insists on staying in the race, then Bill Ritter might decide to change his mind and run again for Governor. :)

I do not agree with your assessment. I suspect that careful inspection would show plenty of foundation money funneled to aspiring politicians. If McGinnis were Democrat, this incident would be a yawn. Democrats have been embroiled in controversy without stop. Short of arrest, Democrats have little to fear from scandals. Richard Blumenthal in Connecticut does not seem impacted by his outrageous lies about his war record. Obama has lived on the edge of scandal without any impact.
McGinnis should drop out. This scandal is fatal. He is preventing the party from finding a viable candidate.

What the hell is this about? McInnis is one of the most straight-shooting congressmen I know. In the 1990s, he laid out the truth about the thieving Interior Department, told us how corrupt these fascist weasels were in stealing private property from citizens and was one of the people in congress calling for the head of that Nazi SOB Bruce Babbit.
I’d travel 3,000 miles on foot, begging for food, to see Babbit hanged, that slimey Nazi basturd.

Article unclear. Is Tancredo a candidate for governor? Hasn’t filing already come and gone? I know they have either an Aug. or Sept. primary.
We have Scott McInnis, on one hand, that was paid $300K or $150K for two years to write a paper on water for a foundation a few years back. Turns out that the info was partly? wholly? written by an elderly man that didn't cite some of his sources. At the time, the foundation was told that the paper was written by McInnis. Now, McInnis tried to throw the elderly man under the bus, have him sign something that it was all his fault. Rolly Fischer is speaking out:

According to the daughter of the foundation on a local talk show today, McInnis was supposed to do more work for that his fee, but then got another job. That's when they severed ties with him. Now,since all this has come out, they want their $300K back.
Then you have Dan Maes, who is not well known. He's had some of his own problems recently having to pay a large fine for not reporting campaign finance info correctly. I don't think it's clear what exactly Dan Maes does for a living. Neither Maes nor McInnis will release their tax returns.
For Senate we have Ken Buck, running against Jane Norton. He's recently had his own past problems come to light--brought out by Jane Norton in a nasty ad. A lot of people are not pleased with her for running that ad. Ken Buck, speaking about McInnis, came out and said that he needs to do what's best for Scott McInnis which I think is a pretty telling statement.
Tom Tancredo supports Ken Buck and spoke at some kind of rally for him in the recent past. Then Ken Buck says something nasty about what Tancredo said at that rally. Now he's saying Tancredo was right.
It's just all fouled up. A caller or pundit made the point, that without a strong candidate at the top of the ticket for governor, it will likely foul up the chances for the rest of the R's.
Scott McInnis is refusing to exit. People have stated that his ego is pretty big. One person in politics said that he was a McInnis supporter, will still vote for him in the primary, with the hopes that he will knock Dan Maes out, but then quit himself so someone else with a better chance can win. Lots of ifs going on there. At this point, I think we are pretty much screwed here in CO. Still have a little hope that things will get straightened out, but not much.
