The conquered Christians tried to witness and lost. Converting a Muslim to another religion is a death sentence for both under Sharia. This is true even in Egypt. Heck, Christians in Pakistan are routinely prosecuted for the capitol offense of "defaming the prophet" for merely refusing to convert to Islam.
