Boosting unions & killing the economy

One interesting thing about the Obama administration is the strange domi nance of labor unions. Yes, President Obama and other Democratic leaders owe the unions something: Unions gave $400 million to Democrats in the 2008 campaign cycle, and expect to get something in return.

What they haven't gotten out of the Democratic Congress is the thing they wanted most -- the card-check bill that would effectively abolish the secret ballot in unionization elections. Unions now represent only 7 percent of private-sector workers, the lowest percentage since the early 1930s. Union leaders believe that with card check they could vastly increase their dues income.

But the unions have gotten lots of other things, as Peyton R. Miller reports in The Weekly Standard:

He doesn’t even mention handing GM over to UAW or stiffing Chrysler bond holders; maybe he’s tired of drumming on those themes. Did unions get to keep their exemption from tax on “Cadillac healthplans” in the conference committee?

With the economy roaring in the 1950s and 1960s...the unions could play their games and get away with it. Today...with the cops and firemen deeply into this game...I don’t see how the nation would survive past 2020 with a full-up union situation.

Don’t you think cops and to some extent firemen have too much individual responsibility to buy into a fully unionized mind-set?

Do we know for a fact that the rats didn't hide that in the financial "reform" bill?

too bad their unions always support dem candidates here in Chicago

that goes along way with getting Granny and Gramps (who remember when the unions and dems were the party of the people) to vote dem

sorry, I like the cops and FDP, but when they get their pensions cut first, and go 8 years with out a pay raise, they have no one to blame but their own unions who helped elect these dem officials

make your bed, lay in it

Cop and Fire unions need to learn that they will ALWAYS take a back seat to other state workers and educators. If there is money leftover, the dems might toss them a bone.

Dems hate Cops and the Military, they need to learn that.
