I went to bed at 7PM EST to attempt sleep. Must get up at 3:30AM.. Came down due to mind racing. Coors Extra Gold Lager on computer table (very cold).
From thread #3:

"Tom Hunter, retired director of the Sandia National Laboratories and a member of the federal government's scientific team, witnessed the test inside BP's war room in Houston and told The Washington Post that the pressure rose to about 6700 psi and appeared to be likely to level out "closer to 7000." He said scientists will labor to understand the meaning of such pressures. One possibility, he said, is that the well has simply depleted itself to a certain degree over the course of nearly three months."

And it might be added. The original pressure readings may have been in error. Things seemed to be going a bit funny those last few days. What happens if enough methane has been bleed in this particular pocket that would realistically reduce the cavity pressure. As pressure drops one must also take into account the slight lowering of local temperatures within the cavity in question. Complicated calculations I am not equiped to have to perform.
In closing. There could be a few reasonable explainations as to why the pressure readings have dropped that do not indicate a breached well bore into the local cavity. Perhaps within the next two days we shall see other things posted that could make sense in the determination of the actual conditions at this site.

Good points. Yes a lower reservoir pressure could be one of the causes, but thought I read that this reservoir was going to be producing for years with eventually 3-4 Production wells sunk into it running 24 hours a day. Another possibility I read was that there could be cross talk or cross channel between the Wild Well and the Relief Well 1. That was why they stopped the RW 1, so they could tell if pressure was coming in from the Wild Well during the pressure test. Apparently if they got drilling mud coming back up RW 1, they would know something was up. Since they state they have no clue now, we must assume no drilling mud came back up Relief Well 1. My 2 cents.

I agree....but they need to wrestle with the facts as they find them..
