RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - It has now been just about two weeks since a new Virginia law went into effect allowing concealed weapons in bars and restaurants. Now, both sides of the issue are already weighing in on its impact.
Today we get the opinions of people directly connected to the new law. Phillip Van Cleave is the President of the Virginia Citizens Defense League, a group that fought to get the law passed.

Should concealed weapons be allowed in bars and restaurants?
Yes - 88%
No - 12%
If a person is afraid to go somewhere ,isn’t it smarter to avoid going there?
What are you referring to in your question?
I read the debate; the business owner appears not to want to have guns in his establishment; the concealed weapons carrier feels unsafe going there without his concealed weapon. I come down on the side of the business owner.

Your right, too; not quibbling with it.
BTW, do you think the restaurant owner should be allowed to ban burqas in contravention of rights of religious expression? I do.
So do I, private property rights (almost) always are more important than individual rights. A business owner should always be free to forbid business as permitted by law (and even then, law has WAY overstepped its bounds with respect to smoking, etc).
However, a blanket state ban on CCW in bars or restaurants is unfathomable. Even forbidding a CCW holder to defend his or herself after responsibly enjoying a beverage with dinner is nanny statism. Getting sloshed and carrying is never a good idea, but many states, such as Pennsylvania, trust the license holder to be responsible, and there are not incidents of "blood on the streets" as many would suggest.
FREEP THIS POLL ***PING!*** FRmail me if you want to be added or removed from the Fearless Poll-Freeping Freepers Ping list. And be sure to ping me to any polls that need Freepin', if I miss them. (looks like a medium volume list) (gordongekko909, founder of the pinglist, stays on the list until his ghost signs up for the list)
The law before this law a lawyer or judge can carry in a bar and drink. The law now states the CCW person can carry but not drink. The lawyer and judge can still drink and carry. Did you know that?
Yes — 85%
No — 15%

Probably just me but I could not find the poll. Where is it on the page. Thanks.
It depends how you deal with fear. It can either be a useful emotion or a phobia.
“I read the debate; the business owner appears not to want to have guns in his establishment; the concealed weapons carrier feels unsafe going there without his concealed weapon. I come down on the side of the business owner.”
Personally, I come down on the side of the gun owner, but any place that posts a “no weapons allowed” sign just doesn’t get my business. I don’t go to bars, anyway, so for me it would be a moot point.
Legal beagles with MORE rights than the gainfully employed and source of their salaries (us)? That seems bass-ackwards.
