A 2008 voter-intimidation case has become a political controversy for the Obama administration as conservative lawyers, politicians and commentators raise concerns that the Department of Justice has failed to protect the civil rights of white voters.
The discussion centers on whether the Justice Department's civil rights division mishandled a lawsuit against members of the New Black Panther Party, which was filed weeks before the Obama administration took office. The suit was focused on the party and two of its members, who stood out front of a polling place in Philadelphia on Election Day 2008 wearing military gear. They were captured on video and were accused of trying to discourage some people from voting. One carried a nightstick.
Conservatives complained last year when Justice officials narrowed the case, dropping the party and one of the men and focusing only the bearer of the stick. Department officials have said since then that they did not have sufficient evidence to pursue the case against the other defendants. Justice officials who served in the Bush administration have countered that the department had enough evidence to pursue the case more fully and called the decision to narrow it political. The matter caught the attention of some Republican lawmakers, who held up the confirmation of President Obama's assistant attorney general for civil rights for months asking for a congressional review of the case.
The conflict intensified last week when former Justice Department lawyer J. Christian Adams, who was hired during the Bush administration and helped develop the case, told the Commission on Civil Rights that he believed the case had been narrowed because some of his colleagues in the civil rights division were interested in protecting only minorities.

Eric Holder, next under the bus?
This is a half good thing, I couldn’t find anything in here about the charge from Adams that Fernandes said “no prosecuting black on white charges”.
It looks like a start though. Go Megyn Kelly.
THe Post set this case up as a strawman issue because they featured enough people opposed to pursuing it to make the former DOJ official seem like he was on a personal vendetta against the New Black Panther Party.
Just switch the scenario and have military-garbed whites, one holding a baton, in front of a voting place in a liberal white area in Florida, shouting anti-liberal slogans, and see how fast their asses would have been in shackles and jail.
Voter intimidation is voter intimidation no matter who does it. Equal justice demands equal prosecution. Anything less is unjust and undemocratic.
The guy is an incompetent moron... and that’s one of his better qualities. The facts that he’s an american hater makes him dangerous.
The same can be said of his boss.
Quite interesting that this MSMediot can not quite report this story, but can report the controversy associated with this story.
“The discussion centers on whether the Justice Department’s civil rights division mishandled a lawsuit against members of the New Black Panther Party...”
The word “mishandled” may leave the Post’s readers with the mistaken impression that Holder and DoJ merely “dropped” the ball. Nothing could be further from the truth.
This wasn’t a case of neglect or incompetence: this was a case where they clearly and purposely kicked the ball to the outfield, past the bullpen, through the stands, and into the parking lot. They did so knowing no one in the MSM would call them on it.
To say that they’re incompetent is to give them too much credit and demean incompetence everywhere. They are evil, pure and simple.
What a liar this reporter is. Adams did not describe this as a matter of his personal belief. He said that one or more superiors came right out and indicated this to be the dept policy under Comrade Holder. His immediate superior, who protested, was exiled to South Carolina.
Did you notice how many times they mentioned “Bush”?
Allow me to bring you up to speed, the New Black Panther Party case, which as Dem Congressman Brad Sherman's office demonstrated, has NOT been covered by the MSM, is not an isolated case. That's the real problem for the Obama Administration. The American People are coming to the conclusion that the first Black President is not colorblind, that Obama is using the powers of the Federal Government to discriminate against some Americans for reasons of race. This is poison for the Democrats, as Brad Sherman found out in his clueless performance at a Townhall.
Let's start with Obama's "acting stupidly" remark about the white Cambridge Police dealing with Prof. Gates, who was acting out of control, spoiled and entitled. Solution: Beer Summit.
We have affirmative action, race discrimination built into the insane "financial reform" bill. We have Eric Holder introducing himself to the nation as Attorney General by calling us a "nation of cowards" on race. And we have the NAACP, acting on behalf (and at the behest) of the Obama Administration and the Democrat Party calling the Tea Party racist after a year long smear campaign. Obama follows up with his first true passionate outrage at al Qaeda and calls them "racist". And for political purposes, the Obama Administration and the Department of Justice, again, playing the race card with its lawsuit against Arizona.
WaPo, you have alot of catching up to do. Good thing, no else, except members of Congress and other "Progressives", wait for you to understand what's happening in this country. If they did, they wouldn't know a darn thing.
Et tu, WaPo? If they’re not careful, next thing you know they’ll be reporting the news. The problem is nobody cares what they do anymore.
It took long enough but this story FINALLY made it to the MSM.
There ... fixed it!
"Former Justice attorney J. Christian Adams testified last week before the commission that his former employer not only abandoned the Black Panther voter intimidation case for racial reasons, but had instructed attorneys in the division to ignore cases that involve black defendants and white victims."
Panel Urges Federal Probe Following 'Grave' Testimony in Black Panther Case (Holder won't care)
As far as the DOJ is concerned it’s open season on whites regarding voting rights. Add to this that Reid wants to nationalize the police, and you certainly understand the need for the 2nd Amendment!
The Department of Justice has become the Department of Barack Obama’s Brand of Justice. Some folk can do whatever they want without fear of the law, and some folk better watch themselves verrrry carefully.
