Corvette "Rocket" Ad Slams Obama's NASA Funding Cuts (Gov't Motors Insults The One)

General Motors Corvette ad at YouTube here.

GM's new ad for the Corvette makes a not-so-veiled swipe at the Obama administration, implying Chevy will keep building manned rockets even if — thanks to the President's budget cuts — NASA won't. It's brilliantly Amerigasmic.

The new ad for the 2011 Chevy Corvette line-up is the product of their new firm Goodby, Silverstein & Partners and features the awesome Corvette ZR1 along with nostalgic video of NASA's Saturn V program from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. It also features a knock at the current space policy with this line: "While time has marched on and priorities have changed, it's nice to know America still builds rockets."

That's clearly a reference to the new Obama space policy, which calls for less of a focus on manned spaced flight — like the Constellation program — and more work done on other space initiatives.

You had to show that didn’t you? I love those cars.......even the older ones. When I was into Corvettes, I never had as much fun.

Government Motors, NASA, what’s the difference?

Oh yeah, NASA actually does things (or use to do things) the public sector couldn’t.

Seems like GM and Chrysler are ramping up their “American” mantras lately. And it comes at the same time as Obama’s plummeting approval.

Back when Zero’s allure was high, they weren’t so against having him as their boss.

Now that he’s the butt of everyone’s joke, they are changing their tune. Must have realized America was a pretty great place for business and competition before the nationalization of everything under the sun.

Too bad for them, it’s too late.

What will suck is the annointed one cancels the Vette, I can see him doing it out of spite.

This isn't about the Vette, but the "Rossi Sixty Six" which is based on the Vette.

I have seen it in person and literlly touched it, it is stunning, and cancelling the platform it is based on would border on being a sin...

I’m getting

I wonder if that’s legit, or Google has pulled it, probably in order to “check with the copyright holder” - as if Chevy wouldn’t want this run anywhere, any time.

Sorry, but this add does nothing to “slam” Obama.

Quote: “While time has marched on and priorities have changed, its nice to know America still builds rockets”.

Sorry, but that is hardly an indictment, it reads more to me of an affirmation.

Hell the big Zero could have written that one himself.

What a fine commercial. It honestly made a chill run down my arms. I’m a woman and I’ve never driven a Corvette in my life, but the commercial made me want one.

Before you post stuff like this, you should consider that some of us are impulse buyers and have access to our wife’s money.

Just great, now I have to live with this stress all day grrrrrrr

That was very good. LOL.

My wife has always wanted a Corvette, a 1963.

After 38 years I have yet to buy her one, but if our ship comes in just one more time, she is going to be the beautiful hot grandmother in the kick butt 1963 Corvette..... I’ll be driving of course. ;>)

Well done by Corvette's PR folks.

However, I believe that the article is incorrectly optimistic; it states "less of a focus on manned spaced [sic] flight", but I believe that all U.S. government manned space flight projects have now been canceled.

We will be reduced to politely begging the Russians or the Chinese if they can carry any of our government astronauts into space, or hoping that someday the private sector will independently develop such a commercial capability.

Of course, the Kenyan Clown is delighted to have reduced our manned space flight capability to exactly that of Kenya's.

It does serve as a reminder, Obama space policy will assure some of our greatets accomplishments will be well behind us.

“still builds rockets” as NASA human spaceflight is indeed under great assault by Ozero, who of course is trying to wipe out NASA crewed rocket programs.

Several Apollo crews drove Vettes by the way.

Corvette horsepower could drop because of stringent emissions standards to “save” the planet.

Obama is all about killing American exceptionalism and high performance.

I have always loved them for their beauty. I’ve ridden in them a few times but have never driven one. I’ve never had that much money to spend on a vehicle, and when I bought a car I needed something practical, that I could haul kids, dogs, horse gear, and garden supplies in. Maybe someday I’ll have a chance to sit behind the wheel of one.

If you dream it , it can happen.

My bride hasn’t given up and she’s waited for 38 years. Even at out ages, I think we would look good in one. ;>)

We haven’t purchased one for the same reasons.... but many of those reasons no longer apply.

If I were to sell my boat we could buy one, but then I would long for another boat. Life is too darn short or... there are just too many toys out there. LOL
