Maybe obesity IS a race problem. Maybe blacks are stuffing too much fat and sugar into their mouths?

Hey!

Wait a minute!

That's the same thing that makes white people fat TOO.

never mind

I’m waiting for all the pictures of obese Africans.

Excellent point. In fact that can be taken a lot further by saying "I'm waiting to see pictures of a fat person *anywhere* taken 100 years ago".

Obesity is a "disease" of affluence. It's only fairly recently that you could find fat people anywhere. And in less affluent parts of the world you *still* can't find them.

"“Ruth’s Chris is my favorite restaurant, and I always order the rib eye, medium-rare,” said Williams, which undoubtedly makes the anti-meat PCRM cringe in fear for the tennis star’s life. According to the PCRM ..."

Wow, this article couldn't be more idiotic and devoid of reason and logic, even if that was the author's intent. Really, it's about as anti-intellectual as you can get.

Venus Williams is a professional athlete who participates in a HIGHLY anaerobic sport. Like Michael Phelps, I would guess that Venus has to consume something north of 5-6K calories a day in order to not lose weight. Setting her as some kind of example of the black community - or any community - is almost retarded, because her activity level dwarfs the average American.

Americans are FAT. Anyone who spends anytime abroad, and then comes back here, knows that we're fat. And, the more we understand and educate our population about the dangers of some kinds of meat, of some kinds of fat, of excessive refined sugars in our diets and excessive portions, the better our collective health will become - and the lower our medical costs will be.

Obesity kills - it kills WAY more than guns, drunk drivers, murderers, terrorist - or any number of other dangerous activities or people that we get so worked up over. If Michelle Obama goes to the NAACP and tells them that black people are fat because they have horrible diets - she's right - and good for her.

You’re not allowed to say that here.

FReepers will jump on you that it’s simply “calorie in/calorie out”

Carbs are a big deal AND lack of certain vitamins. Refined sugars and HFCS are awful. Whole grains need to be championed too (carbs are better if some get pooed out)

If it were just calorie in/calorie out, everyone would be thin.

Genetics are a factor, but personal choices make the difference (I know, the necessary choice might include 2 hours a day of exercise, or never feeling completely full, but those are choices we could make).

I'll leave out the pic of Michelle Obama, because I don't believe one exception proves the rule, but there are lots of black women who are beautiful and not overweight, along with many who are overweight but still beautiful. Michelle Obama needs to mind her own business and keep quiet a little more.

Maybe we don’t want to live until someone has to feed us our strained peas with a spoon.

To: worst-case scenario

I’ve read that many professional athletes gain a ton when they quit playing. Even a respectable level of working out and exercising can’t approach the massive exertions demanded of a life on the gridiron.

I’m thinking the recent explosion of monstrous obesity in recent years is a combination of the internet, proliferating cable channels, handheld electronic entertainment doodads (and the commensurate lack of sleep and correspondingly deranged appetite), the microwave and the disappearance of family dining.

TV, Fast food and junk food have been around for a half-century, it’s these recent developments that have made the difference.

"Maybe we don’t want to live until someone has to feed us our strained peas with a spoon."

Sure that's an intelligent retort. /s

I don't want to live until someone has to feed me, so I'm going to balloon to 300 lbs. Good luck with that. Hopefully Darwin will work his magic before you reproduce.

Mrs. Obama also told the NAACP on July 12 - “Many of you probably grew up like I did — in a community that wasn’t rich, not even middle class..” “In these kind of strong African American communities, we went to neighborhood schools around the corner. So many of us had to walk to and from school every day, rain or shine. I know you’ve told that story. (Laughter.) And in Chicago, where I was raised, we did it in the dead of winter. (Laughter.) No shoes on our feet — it was hard, but we walked! (Applause.)”

Hardly humble: Michelle’s childhood home in Chicago
“Michelle was from a middle-class family,” confirmed one of her long-time friends, Angela Acree.
“She came from a regular family. They had a nice home. It wasn’t a mansion, but it was just fine. It was a decent neighbourhood.”

No one could pretend they were rich and it is true that her father, Frasier Robinson, spent some time as a maintenance worker for Chicago’s Department of Water Management.
However, he was a good deal more than the labourer that many seem to imagine.
Indeed, according to family friends, Michelle’s father was a volunteer organiser for the city’s Democratic Party, a by-word for machine politics in America, and his loyalty was rewarded with a well-paid engineering job at Chicago’s water plant. Even before overtime, he earned $42,686 - 25 per cent more than High School teachers at the time.

I would suggest that the lunacy being produced by the members of the Obama Administration, their minions and lickspittles is just what you get when a group recognizes that everybody is on to their con and even their friends start looking at them cross-wise. You get hysterical reactions, especially from those not really toughened up by actual experience.

It’s a good sign, in other words.

I’ll bet it’s the CARBS....

That's certainly been the case for me.I was sent to a dietitian a few years ago because my doctor insisted that I lose 30 pounds (diabetes, hypertension).I told her about my diet and she nearly fainted. She said,in no uncertain terms,"TOO MANY CARBS".Soon after that visit I tried Atkins (although she never mentioned it) and the pounds melted off of me.After about 4 months I was off all diabetes meds and I was down to the minimum dose of one blood pressure medication. The cardiologist said that that's often what happens in cases like mine.

I’ll bet it’s the CARBS....just like for some Spanish people...

Yep. Hispanics eat a lot of corn-based stuff. I definitely believe in the high-protein, low-carb diet. My only point of wonderment is how Asians can eat so much rice and still stay so thin. I've seen Chinese guys that actually work at like a Panda Express or something, and at lunch break they'd get a huge bowl of rice and just shovel it down, day after day. (I used to work at the mall.) And they were skinny little dudes! I don't get it...

"Michelle is a racist now she is going after her own people.."

How is that? Racism involves a belief of superiority of your race over that of another. You can offend, insult and make observations all day long and it doesn't make you a racist.

Michelle's weight was fine until she didn't make the cut as a Redskins' linebacker. Then, negative emotions set in. Thankfully it's all behind her now.

Besides, Decks, even though her hubby may be a bit of a pansy (or a lot), those guns of hers come in handy when she and Moms have to straighten the commie twerp out.

You know, part of the problem in this country is that when something is shown to aid weight loss, it’s pulled off the market as unsafe.

People have been using Ma Huang for centuries in the east to lose weight. It’s illegal here.
Tons of people quit smoking and boom, gain weight. They could eat more when the nicotine picked up their metabolism.
Getting older slows your metabolism too.

Every time something comes along for weight loss it’s suddenly a huge danger.

I don't know about *all* such medications but in the case of Fen-phen it was pulled off the market because it was shown to cause major heart damage.
