Study: California has 26 percent of "DREAM" undocumented youth

California is home to 26 percent of an estimated 2.1 million young illegal immigrants who could earn legal status with the proposed federal DREAM Act, according to a new study by the Migration Policy Institute in Washington, D.C.

The study released this month by the nonpartisan research center uses data from the 2006 and 2008 federal Current Population Survey, along with 2000 Census information to estimate the size of this population of children and young adults.

California is home to by far the greatest number - 553,000 - of potential beneficiaries of the proposal, the study found. The study puts Texas in second place, with 258,000, or 12 percent, followed by Florida, with 192,000 or 9 percent; New York with 146,000 or 7 percent; and Arizona with 114,000 or 5 percent.

The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors, or DREAM, Act, was first introduced in 2001 by Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, and Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill.

Durbin and Rep. Howard Berman, D-North Hollywood, reintroduced the proposal last year and interest in it was rekindled recently with President Obama's speech calling for immigration reform.

The fate of undocumented young adults has also become a point of debate in California's gubernatorial race. Republican candidate Meg Whitman favors ending a 2001 state law that allows undocumented California high school graduates to attend public universities and pay in-state tuition rates but receive no financial aid.

The numbers in are amazing and unbelievable. Supposedly "only" 825,000 of the 2.1 "potential beneficiaries" might participate. Right. You are giving away, in effect, free money. You are GOING TO HAVE MORE DEMAND, NOT LESS. And in addition, once legalized, these people can 1) bring in all their relatives and 2) move to legalize their illegal relatives already here.

And notice that this bill to "help high school students" applies to illegal immigrants UP TO THE AGE OF 35. There will be several million 25-24 year old illegals claiming they were brought here as children.

The amnestoids are now thinking maybe they will enact this, because actually passing their amnesty bill is receding into the far distance. They have now decided to enact amnesty by 1,000 cuts, rather than try to get their "comprehensive" bill.

We should also encourage people to do what the Amazing Racist has done - drive them to the nearest local immigration office as seen in this video.

But I’d call the INS/ICE on the way to the immigration office so they are ready to capture them on the front lawn of the property.

We already have a path for young Aliens to earn both citizenship and a college education.

It’s called military service.

Plus, community colleges are so crowded that it takes 4-5 years to earn an Associate Degree.

American citizens cannot get a timely education anymore.

They are forced to go to private trade schools, where they borrow large sums of money to pay for their education, thus not benefiting from the taxes that citizens pay for the public schools, and owing huge sums as young people.

Many of the “millenniel” generation are Po’ed about this.

Once they get over their 0bama worship (that’s happening rapidy), we will see numbers of them voting with conservatives.

I posted the same comment once and was informed that you have to be a legal resident to join the military.

They are not “undocumented”, they are illegal. Calling people “undocumented immigrants” is like calling shoplifting an “undocumented purchase.”

I got this from Michael Medved, who is usually pretty accurate.

Let me do some research.

Another reason we're coming for this RINO in 2012. Time to go home, Orrin.
