A Blinn College professor, Dr. McCullough, who has been teaching a State Government class this past year and appears to allegedly be trying to indoctrinate the students with leftist ideology. Several students are very upset, but hesitant to write a letter to the Administration about the outrageous, leftist rantings of the teacher for fear of repercussions.
It is alleged that the teacher has several posters (at the time of this writing) on the walls of the room which are obviously pro-homosexual and leftist leaning (Brokeback Mountain and Frida Kahlo - read about her here: Click here. ) due to the themes invoked. Neither poster is relevant to Texas State Government. In his lectures, he allegedly supports the liberal Democrat agenda and ridicules conservative political ideology in a totally biased fashion. He allegedly ridicules any student who answers with an opposing point of view. Since most students taking the class are freshmen, almost no one is willing to take him on in debate.
Suggestions that the students write a letter to the Administration are answered with statements that such has been tried before with no effect since the Administration appears to support the same agenda. Any Freepers in the area who can look in to this and/or provide help/support to get this corrected would be very much appreciated.
There is nothing that can be done about these types.
Drop the class. Why waste your time and money?
The commies do it why not us.
Hey, it’s college. These profs are the easiest - quickly espouse everything they say and do, write a crappy paper, and get an A+. They don’t want you to think for yourself, they just want someone to respect them.
Ridicule within his class is probably the best strategy.
Some of these classes are required and thus indoctrination secured. The students in disagreement should stick together and discuss the truth outside of class, possibly even starting a study group with other students who may just want to listen.
The students should not be ashamed to argue back and be as professional as possible showing the professor to be rude and bullying. It is also a good idea to let the others in the class know that the professor is in fact not right about what he is saying and is in fact being a bully, like a good communist.
I worked at a private college where the local student body was conservative but the professors were liberal and outside students liberal. The college agenda was to be diverse and had invited many foreign students with poor English skills to learn there. I am sure most public universities are the same. WHY ARE THEY FUNDED WITH TAX MONEY??????
Why go to a college like that? Who’s holding a gun to your head and forcing you to enroll there and register for this class? You’re the consumer; you write the checks; you hold the cards. Threaten to sue. Or just stop whining and transfer out—and explain to management just why you’re doing so: you aren’t getting value for money.
What on earth is “Blinn College,” anyway? Is that really what you want it to say on your diploma? I’m pretty sure this is not some superb school that offers something no other college does. There are doubtless alternatives.
Also, if you’re old enough to go to college, you’re old enough to act like an adult, take action, and organize a protest. Show some initiative. Don’t cower in the corner with fears of unspecified retribution or repercussions. Grow a pair. Act like men. Stand up for your principles. Stop whining and act like conservatives!
It is also alleged that he has/had a poster of Harvey Milk (first openly gay supervisor in San Francisco) in the class. Obama presented the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously to Harvey Milk in August of 2009.
Set the professor up!
Video tape with sound what he says.
Bait him with questions.
Organize before hand and have students ask him questions that highlight his godless and leftist ideology.
Then call your local news and supply them with COPIES of the filmed classes. If they don’t respond, flood the market with whom ever will listen till you get exposure and RESULTS. You can’t let them get away with this.
Once you get it on the news or with a news source, put it on YOUTUBE and create a FACEBOOK account about the school or the SUBJECT being taught at the school. Nail him from ALL angles till YOU get the RESULTS you are looking for.
As a teacher and administrator at a two-year college part of my job is to investigate and deal with student complaints about professors. Most complaints are bogus, but occasionally there comes a case where there is a real problem like the one you are facing. Complaining to the Dean of Faculty, or the various vice-presidents will get you nowhere. What you need to do is send letters to the president of the college and the governing board of regents. The other students should do the same. Complain to the division chair or the faculty dean in the hopes that he/she will at least speak with the faculty member, which could possibly lead to a verbal tirade in the classroom. Have the tape recorders rolling at all times, and if you ask questions make sure they are stated politely. If this teacher knows you are, or suspects you are one of the complaining students, his answers to your questions could possibly be hatefull and condescending. This is a common trait among liberal teachers. If your teacher is an adjunct, the complaints to the President and the regents might be enough to get the guy canned if he is an adjunct, but being a liberal and a jerk is not enough of a complaint. The guy needs to be goaded into a fit of rage.
Adjuncts are a dime a dozen in the field of political science and the division chairs and others don’t want the distraction. If the guy is fulltime then I am afraid it could take many semesters and a long track record of the professor’s misbehavior to get him canned. If this is not working out then drop the course before it is mandatory for the teacher to assign you some kind of grade. If this is a class that is needed for your major, and no one else teaches it, you will just have to grin and bear the agony.
Blinn is a two year college with several campuses. These kinds of places attract second and third string lefties who toked their way through grad school but who can’t get hired at a major university. He has the advantage of experience over any freshman, but he’s likely to be cream puff if you put some effort into learning to deal with him.
People like McCullough are encountered throughout the academic system, however, and students need to learn to cope with it. If you continue your academic career, you will run across a lot more of these lefty profs, some a great deal more intelligent and talented than this character seems to be.
One piece of advice I can give is to talk confidentially to another member of the faculty about it. Another is to sharpen your critical thinking skills. In particular, learn to spot favorite lefty fallacies like the strawman and weasel words. Familiarize yourself with college rules and the principles of academic freedom and prepare to take on the communard forces. You will have to do that if you want to get anywhere in academia anyway.
I suggest that you transfer out of that liberal private college and enter the premier public conservative college in the entire country, Texas A&M which is only a few miles from Blinn College.
#13 was meant for MeneMeneTekelUpharsin. Sorry ‘bout that.
Ridicule is a powerful weapon, but it has its limitations. Ultimately, you have to stand firm and frankly and openly state your position, come what may.
There is a long history of this type of conflict of conscience in English law, and its progress shows the power of consistent and sincere expression to impress itself on the minds of others.
Sounds like a plan!
Easy. Don’t take his class. Encourage other students not to take his class. If it is required, take the class at another institution and transfer it.
It’s very frustrating. Personally, I always argued with them. I didn’t care. I had one prof in tears once. (Just a little, but it was very satisfying). They always gave me good grades though, because I did very thorough work and completed my assignments. But I argued every single day. One guy referred to me wryly as his nemesis.
Blinn college is a rather good two year college in Brenham, TX. They have the highest rate of successful transfer of credit hours to 4 year schools of any two year institution in the state.
This is a bit surprising as the demographics of Blinn students reflect rural values.
Good music department.
