Silly to blame Costco in this instance. There seems to be no info on if there even was anyone destroying merchandise and if this part was made up by an employee then no amount of training would have prevented it because the employee is a head case.

Perhaps a better screening process but even that is not perfect.

I lay all the responsibility on the police in this instance since it appears all the eye witnesses seem to agree there was no weapon in the hand of the deceased and the police had no reason whatever to even draw their weapons much less discharge them in a lot crowded with shoppers.

I have a feeling Costco will admit the employee acted counter to the stores policies, the employee overly reacted and did not make an appropriate description of events to the 911 operator which led to the actions of the LEO’s.

One person cried fire in a theater or in this case yelled GUN!

All the more reason to conceal, and conceal properly, I used to live in LV, and during the summer its almost impossible to conceal unless you are wearing something inside an AC building such as a sports coat, during the summer its too easy to see an imprinted weapon.

I base how I conceal upon the weather condition, fortunately for me I live in a cool if not arctic climate.

Giving Costco a hard time about it will persuade them, and other businesses, to make clear to employees that IT IS OK FOR CUSTOMERS TO BE ARMED.

If, and I admit this is unlikely, someone in Cosco called the police and made a false report of a man with a gun acting in a criminal manner, I would see if that act rose to the level of a felony. If so, does Nevada have a felony murder statute? Throwing people with guns into a confrontational situation in a crowded area through lies is criminally negligent, and if it results in someone's death then they should be held accountable.

That in no way effects to responsibility of the police. Their actions need to be evaluated based on what they knew at the time and how the situation unfolded. The guilt or innocence of the person who reported the crime is irrelevant to that evaluation.

Ultimately the responsibility is the incompetent, possibly
lusting-for-SWAT-glory LVPDs. But the dismal GFW COSTCO
staff person and mgmt, not to mention some of those present
need to really start thinking about guns, citizens, hostile
shooters, etc. Dismaying to learn that those in NV don’t
understand that the RKBA, yes, in large retail establishments
protects them rather than threatens them.
