Janice Wells called the Richland Police Department when she feared a prowler was outside her clapboard house in the rural west Georgia town.
The third-grade teacher had phoned for help. But within minutes of an officer coming to her backdoor, she was screaming in pain and begging not to be shocked again with a Taser. With each scream and cry, the officer threatened her with more shocks.

"I did what I had to do to take control of the situation," Smith told the AJC about his decision to repeatedly discharge his Taser.

What mistake? The mistake of expecting professional conduct
from a couple of police officers?
Sounds to me that these two needed to lose their jobs. Have you even read the story?
Why didn’t the cop pick the woman up and put her in the car? Didn’t the sheriff say that the taser is not meant to be used as a punitive measure? These cops are working for someone else now..don’t cry for them.
Is there not a limit to how many times a person should be tased????????????????????????????????????????????
“Janice Wells called the Richland Police Department ... for help”
I realize that officers are concerned because of problems with domestic violence. A poor investigation or none at all has bitten more than officer in the butt when the woman was severely beaten or killed later. However, in this case, he should have recorded as much as he could, including her refusal to identify her "friend" and let it go.
What is your point?
There are only ever two kinds of cops: Totally corrupt. And not yet totally corrupt. Fired? They need sued to beyond bankruptcy. They need to be unemployable. 75% of all cops need fired. The other 25% probably should he as well. This happened because she exercised her rights to not speak and the ego centric cop didn’t like it. Period. Bootlickers. Ping me. We’ll dance.
Perhaps your first comment needed a /sarcasm tag?
What bullies. They won’t be missed.
Sarcasm tags are the training wheels of the internet. Experienced posters shouldn’t need them.
Not sad at all... These police shouldn’t be allowed to breath any more air, much less work for the taxpayer...
Get in the car! Get in the car! Get in the car! You gonna get it again, Smith screamed.
Wells cried.
In seconds the sound of the Taser can be heard again.
Dont do it. Dont do it. I aint gonna do nothing, Wells pleaded.
Oh yes, it's very reasonable to expect someone (much less a woman in her 50s) to get up and immediately place herself in the back of a police car within about 2 seconds of being Tased. Sounds a bit like that other thread with the CCW vet getting whacked in LV after getting conflicting orders from the three "peace" officers. Reminds of that old South Park episode. You just have to yell something like "he's coming right for us", "put the gun down" or some other order that's impossible to comply with, then you may fire at will.
Was was her mistake, asserting her right to remain silent?
What was her mistake, asserting her right to remain silent?
ANd what’s so bad is another Sheriff’s Dept. has already hired one of these scumbags...
LOL, you’d think so, especially on FR yet the first half dozen posts seemed challenged.
Heh, plenty of people here that will defend this kind of police action (although that number does seem to be fading), so it’s hard to tell who’s serious and who’s not.
Hopefully as a janitor.
