I think it works like this:

Little Kids - “I believe whatever my parents do.”

Teen - “The world sucks, I hate my parents. There must be a better way.”

College Kids - “Why don't we all just work together? I bet no one has ever thought of that before!”

Post-college Kids - “Why didn't we change things? The MAN must be keeping us down!.”

Working Adults - “Well, on the one hand I guess I'm glad there's a system that keeps my safe and lets me earn a living. I better join the Sierra Club though. Just in case.”

Wise People - “I'm not the smartest person ever, and I should study history to what's worked and what's failed. If I have these ideas about politics there's a good chance other people had the same ideas a long time ago.”

I think Behar is somewhere between a teen and a college kid.

“I’m not the smartest person ever, and I should study history to what’s worked and what’s failed. If I have these ideas about politics there’s a good chance other people had the same ideas a long time ago.”

This is an excellent observation.
