Happened to me in Chicago - the Friday afternoon prior to Memorial Day. Air Force One landed at O’Hare, the Zero had to leave by helicopter, so it shut down the airport for about an hour - we sat on the tarmac for the entire time, just missing being able to take off. Passengers sitting next to me missed their connection to London - they weren’t big Obama fans that day.

Close a runway - don’t need the entire airspace around the city.

Almost happened to me on Omaha. Bush was flying in for a speech, so the gate agents hurried us on board and we left 10 minutes early to beat the closing of the airspace. We were one of the last flights out for two hours.
