Note to Pelosi: Gov't should back off

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-California) recent comments about unemployment, made during her defense of a bill that would extend benefits for more than a million people, have generated a storm of criticism.

In her speech last week, Pelosi denied that jobless benefits give Americans little incentive to find work and argued that federal-assisted benefits create jobs and increase economic demand.

Tom McClusky, senior vice president of Family Research Council Action, disagrees with Pelosi's stand. "She is showing a serious lapse of knowledge," he contends. "It certainly eases [the] pain of workers who are laid off. [But unemployment benefits] provide people with incentive and means not to work."

In a press conference last week, the speaker of the House stated that unemployment benefits create jobs faster than any other program, and she insisted that a "double benefit" for the economy creates jobs and helps those who have lost their jobs. unemployment"It injects demand into the economy," Pelosi argued. "It creates jobs faster than almost any other initiative you can name."

She further claimed that that unemployment checks provide the money families need to survive, and because of it, the money is spent. "It is impossible to think of a situation where we would have a country that would say, 'We're not going to have unemployment benefits,'" the California Democrat added. "It is contrary to what our country is about."

The bill, which many view as another stimulus package, failed in the Senate last Wednesday, but Pelosi is still confident that it will pass. However, McClusky believes she will have a difficult time winning over Republicans.

You can't read any bill until it's in force, otherwise how would you uneducated understand it? No. We haven't read the bill either, but think how surprised we'll all be when it becomes the law of the land.

Trust us. We are your leaders!

When Clinton shut down the government, it was the right thing to do. Of course he used it as a political ploy and blamed Newt for it.

Just like deep water drilling, we should have a federal government shut down and a moratorium on any government operations until we figure out what to do to fix it.

Great idea! Shut down the government until we solve the problem in Washington.....as if we don’t know what that problem is!

The problem is, it would take a ream of paper just to list the names of all the useless (nonessential) departments and agencies of the executive branch.

Most of them are unConstitutional.
