Corker Challenges Dems to Swear off Moving Major Bills During Lame-Duck

President Barack Obama and Democratic leaders in Congress should swear off any major action during a lame-duck Congress, a Republican senator said Friday.

Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) said if Democrats want to add stability to the economy, they should pledge not to move legislation that might not otherwise pass during the congressional session following Election Day.

"I think one of the great things the administration can do to cause people to settle down is to say, absolutely, that they would oppose any great activity in a lame-duck session," Corker said during an appearance on CNBC.

Republicans have expressed worry that Democrats might look to move some of their top legislative priorities that have stalled over the past year and a half in a lame-duck Congress, when retiring or defeated lawmakers might feel more liberated to cast their vote in favor of some measures.

Adding to those fears have been some Democrats and the White House itself, who have signaled that a lame-duck session could be useful. Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) has said elements of the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA, or "card-check") could move during such a session, and White House press secretary Robert Gibbs suggested on Thursday that a lame-duck session could be used to pass a free trade agreement with South Korea.

Corker called on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (Nev.), the Democratic leaders in their respective chambers, to make a similar pledge.

"I think for Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi to say the same thing — that they're not going to try to use the lame-duck session as a place to do things that otherwise would not pass," he said. "That type of thinking, that concern about ... cap-and-trade and other types of policies just feeds into this whole unpredictability issue, the issue of what's going to happen in Washington. We need to move away from that uncertainty."

Good luck with that.

Democrats will be eager to get even with voters that dared to deny them their power.

Hey Corker, why don’t you concentrate on making sure you actually win in November. You morons could figure out how to lose anything.

“Don’t count your chickens” is an old saying for a reason....it’s TRUE.

If the Democrats retain control of Congress by even one seat, they will celebrate it as the greatest victory since V-J Day. And act accordingly.

‘the administration can do to cause people to settle down is to say’...

And right there is the problem. He might ‘say’ it...but you can’t believe or trust him...

Corker should get busy and clean house at the RNC, help create a game plan for the November elections, figure out something positive to attract independents to the GOP...

That’d be a good start.

First they are going to change the Senate rules (goodbye Filibuster), and then Socialist legislation is gonna start moving through both Houses like you-know-what thru a goose.

This has the serious makings of CW II.

He’s not up for re-election this year.

The ones we want to target is US House 8th District, and US 9th District. 8th is an open seat. 3 men running, Steve Fincher, farmer from Frog Jump, who has received $3.2 M in taxpayer subsidies (USDA report), Contributors have received over $100M, voted Demwit in 4 of last 5 primary elections. Voted against Ed Bryant in 2002, voted in favor of Bob Clement, In May 2010 he voted dewit again (county voting records/WNWS 101.5/The Jackson Sun 6/25/2010. This according to Dr. Ron Kirkland (wants to repeal 0’nazicare) who is running against him. Dr. George Flinn, inventor, genius, radio station owner (plays some objectionable music) is the third candidate, he currently holds an elected office, and has voted for some rather pricey projects.

Us 9th Charlotte Bergmann http://www.bergmannforcongress.com/ is the Conservative candidate. Opponents are King Willie Herenton (GOD anointed me) former demwit mayor (70) of Memphis, and incumbent 0 butt kisser Steve Cohen. Both will bloody each other up.

Charlotte is a black business woman, pro-life, pro-2nd amendment, anti-o’nazicare, smaller government. Midsouth Tea Party is backing her.
