A wrongful death lawsuit is justified however and should be awarded in favor of the dead mans family.

Isn't that basically what he was convicted of? Involuntary manslaughter? Or would the wrongful death lawsuit be a civil court action?

With the conviction of involuntary manslaughter, the criminal charge has been settled. The next step is a civil lawsuit. I understand one member of the family has already been awarded some money, but there are other members who have not settled.
