It is hard to justify the adding a weapons-related conviction with an "involuntary" manslaughter conviction. If you say "it's a crime with a gun", that doesn't mesh with "he didn't have any control over doing it". It strikes me as a compromise, where a voluntary manslaughter conviction seems more appropriate.
I can understand people peaceably demonstrating against the verdict. Let's all pray it stays peaceful.
