Oakland (CNN) -- A verdict has been reached in the trial of a former police officer who is white and who is accused of killing an unarmed black man in Oakland, California, according to a superior court spokesman. The verdict will be read at 4 p.m. (7 p.m. ET).

You’re driving down the road, minding the speed limit and all other laws, and a pedestrian jumps out in front of your truck. He dies. Should you be charged with capital murder? After all, intent doesn’t matter, and you killed someone.

Negatory. There is more than one trucker in jail for intentionally driving days without sleep and then falling asleep at the wheel and taking someone out. That is a classic involuntary homicide.
