“Intellectuals” have no ability to distinguish between what sounds good to them and what will actually work or is even possible. Their motto should be, “Don’t confuse me with facts”. When confronted with facts that conflict with their belief system they don’t change their beliefs, they refuse to recognize the facts like a woman who has just married some rich fool far above her station in life and now refuses to recognize her former sweatshop coworker when she passes her in the street.

That is because the true philosophical Leftist believes that REALITY is a mental construct and is whatever he can imagine it to be. There are no "facts," only ideas. I have an old friend of almost half a century who is now a professor at UF and with whom I have had variations of this discussion several times over the years. At first, when he was an aspiring intellectual undergrad he sounded as if his views were consciously adopted in order to impress his professors. By the time he was 50 they were true beliefs, convictions, as it were. There are certain contradictions and when I bring them up he simply does not hear what I say or I am suddenly speaking Navajo, to wit if it is all a mental construct, then why must you convince the rest of us of your reality or force us to accept it in order to bring your imagined better world? Why not just think it? If it is all a mental construct then the Leftist could just think his world into existence and he wouldn't have to arrange to kill off the stubborn masses who will not or cannot live as he knows they must because he can think it.
