(CNSNews.com) In a June 30 memorandum, John Morton, assistant secretary of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), said that enforcing civil immigration laws is vital to our national security, public safety, and the integrity of our border and immigration controls.
But Morton also said that ICE only has the resources to remove about 400,000 illegal aliens each year, a litle less than 4 percent of the current population of those in the United States illegally.

Get them out of here by the end of the month and we can start saving some money.
Arizona is doing it for free.
If we something like a fence where they can’t get back in, 400k a year would be enough.
OK, get it done! Next year, there will be another x %; Obama’s alternative is to just waffle and let them all stay. Screw that, they’re stealing the jobs of my 12 and 14 year old kids - they need that money for college!
4% per month works well for unemployed Citizens. Get busy.
I don built a fence around my property obama self.
Enforce all immigration laws and most will self deport, and then ICE can concentrate on those who do not.
AND, the best and most efficient way to enforce immigration law is to have the Fed, state and local law enforcement all working together (and all with full intent to enforce the law).
Here’s how to do it for free:
1. Publicize that illegals have 60 days to leave the country, no questions asked.
2. An illegal caught after 60 days will spend 20 years in jail, no parole.
3. Anyone employing an illegal after 60 days will be fined $20,000 per infraction and 100 days of community service.
It’s called “self-deportation.”
Solution quite simple: why chase after them when you can simply get between them and what they need?
Creatively redeploy those agents into hitting the fixed targets and guarding the choke points. Concentrate on auditing businesses for illegals and fining the pants off them for employment violations. They could make employment dry up for them without arresting a soul.
Post agents checking ID at the doors of courthouses, municipal and county social services buildings, DMV’s, schools and emergency rooms. Cut them off from the social freebies.
Investigate landlords and fine them for housing illegals.
You don’t need to send out investigators to find the culprits, just put up a website that takes tips. Allow tipsters to send in photos, video clips and google-map coordinates and advertise it on TV and radio. You’ll get more leads than you can handle.
No need to conduct jackbooted sweeps or grab people off the streets just cut the illegals off from jobs and gov’t services and they’ll have to self-deport.
This is where stimulus money could have been well spent. There is all kinds of employment opportunity in repatriating illegals to their country of origin.
Investigators, clerks, enforcement operatives, transportation workers and so on.
Not too daunting a task for the leader of the free world I would think; compared to say, WWI, WWII or the cold war.
Every one removed frees a job opportunity for an unemployed citizen.
What’s the hold up?
It is called attrition. You make it harder for illegals to stay. You cut off benefits, you make sure they do not get jobs, etc etc. They self deport. It works.
Try to imagine how many bank robberies there would be if there was no enforcement of the laws against bank robbery.
ICE has the resources to remove about 400,000 illegal aliens each year?
So why aren’t they doing it?
Yep, and I'm sure this report will be used by the Arizona defense in the upcoming circus trial filled by obamarama's court jester, Holder.
During the 1950s, however, this "Good Old Boy" system changed under Eisenhower - if only for about 10 years.
In 1954, Ike appointed retired Gen. Joseph "Jumpin' Joe" Swing, a former West Point classmate and veteran of the 101st Airborne, as the new INS commissioner.
Influential politicians, including Sen. Lyndon B. Johnson (D) of Texas and Sen. Pat McCarran (D) of Nevada, favored open borders, and were dead set against strong border enforcement, Brownell said. But General Swing's close connections to the president shielded him - and the Border Patrol - from meddling by powerful political and corporate interests.
One of Swing's first decisive acts was to transfer certain entrenched immigration officials out of the border area to other regions of the country where their political connections with people such as Senator Johnson would have no effect.
Then on June 17, 1954, what was called "Operation Wetback" began. Because political resistance was lower in California and Arizona, the roundup of aliens began there. Some 750 agents swept northward through agricultural areas with a goal of 1,000 apprehensions a day.
By the end of July, over 50,000 aliens were caught in the two states. Another 488,000, fearing arrest, had fled the country.
By mid-July, the crackdown extended northward into Utah, Nevada, and Idaho, and eastward to Texas.
By September, 80,000 had been taken into custody in Texas, and an estimated 500,000 to 700,000 illegals had left the Lone Star State voluntarily.
Don't know about the rest of you, but I know that the same brainless politicians who keep asserting that We can't deport 12 million people!" will, with a straight face, and as convincingly, repeat the statement applied to 12,000.
It doesn't take an Einstein to figure out that if the underlying assumption is that "it can't be done," it WON'T get done.
D'UH!
Imagine those incompetents managing the space program in the 60's...
States are going bankrupt to the tune of $140 billion total.
Illegal immigrants cost the states $113 billion by current estimates.
Many of our Fed Govt bureaucracies are “false fronts”..they cannot really deal with but a tiny percentage of what they rule.
For example, Old recalled report: Bush, in his first term, early, offered amnesty to illegals. 750 thousand took the time to fill out paperwork and submitted it to immigration authorities in 50 states. The govt could only process 20 thousand of them, and the rest now reside in a Washington, DC area warehouse. The rest gave up in frustration.
How about a $500 reward for identifying illegals after the 60 days, or employers.
That might actually help with the Visa jumpers not just the border crossers.
Illegals cannot walk backwards?
