On NASA's Strange Priorities
Daniel Pipes personal Blog ^ | 6 July 2010 | Daniel Pipes own blog - cross-referenced to Natl Review

Barack Obama's grand speeches in Istanbul and Cairo as well as his repeated insistence on "respect" made Americans very aware that he hopes to win Muslim favor. But we did not know how deeply embedded this impulse has become in U.S. policy until this: "Obama's new mission for NASA: Reach out to Muslim world." Byron York of the Washington Examiner uncovered an interview on Al-Jazeera in which the head of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Charles F. Bolden, Jr., explained how Obama charged him to pursue three decidedly non-scientific objectives:

Daniel Pipes, PhD needs no introduction to most Freepers, but in this brief and pointed article highlights the almost indescribably stupid, which is to say - Obamaesque - policy of smarming the Muslim world through NASA into thinking that Big Brother loves them! Give me a break!!!

Daniel Pipes, PhD needs no introduction to most Freepers,

You obviously have the wrong site....Ya post a science article around here, and ya get 300 juvenile responses.

Oh really now.....well, son, maybe you’re on the wrong site. I’ve been here for 12 years and have not experienced what you’re complaining about.

Bolden averred that, indeed, "NASA has embraced this charge." In his colorful wording, "NASA is not only a space exploration agency but also an earth improvement agency."

Just what we need a space-based welfare program. Typical Bam Bam.

..."and perhaps foremost, he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science, math, and engineering."

I went over to DU earlier today to see what they thought about this insanity. They didn't even have it posted anywhere that I could find so I guess even they can't spin this in a positive light.

“.....NASA is not only a space exploration agency but also an earth improvement agency.”

So Left-word-ly it makes me wanna throw up.

I can see them Burkha’s and all holding hands swaying to and fro on the rolling green meadows under azure skies, and gentle breezes singing Cumbaya with tables full of falafels behind them.

On NASA's Strange Priorities

Not strange at all, considering obama is in office. I believe obama is a closet Muslim, just afraid to come out of the closet. Also, obama cares little for business, science, and research. All obama cares about is world socialism.

Also not strange for an administration (and lamestream media) that is consistently surprised by "unexpectedly" high unemployment. That when there is nothing unexpected at all about a worsening employment situation with Reid, Pelosi, and obama in power.

One was he wanted me to help re-inspire children to want to get into science and math, he wanted me to expand our international relationships, and third, and perhaps foremost, he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science, math, and engineering.

After I repeated this to a guy who knows everything, his response was, "What contributions?" He talked for awhile, using a lot of big words, and as usual my mind drifted so I didn't catch much of what he said, but it was something about the Arabs getting credit for what Greeks did.

NASA's incompetence has reached epic dimensions with this insane statement by the administrator. It was already teetering on the brink. In spite of its famous, or notorious, emphasis on public relations and propaganda, the agency is the subject of one of the worst PR disasters in history.

I refer, of course, to the public's perception, or misperception, of NASA's budget. There is no single subject about which the American public is so disastrously and provably misinformed. According to a poll conducted two years ago, the average American estimates that NASA receives 24% of the federal budget, over 40 times the actual figure.

NASA has done nothing to address this misconception. If anything, their PR flacks seem to encourage it with their emphasis on the super-human effort and elaborate facilities required for practically any NASA operation. And they wonder why their calls for additional funding fall on deaf ears.

I find any poll that shows the American people to be stupid suspect so I clicked on your link. It led to an article by Phil Plait, which links to an article by Mary Lynne Dittmar, who references herself. Her reference is “in publication”. According to Google, it hasn’t actually been published.
