a bill requiring that a mother be allowed to hear the heartbeat or view an ultrasound of her child before an abortion. The law has just about crippled the abortion industry in Indiana and has driven Planned Parenthood completely bonkers.

Really? Are abortions down that much in Indiana, year-over-year? Got any statistics on the decline?

I ask only because similar measures are being considered in my own State, and it would be pleasing to expect that such laws will have some positive effect. Perhaps some souls aren't too calloused after all, once they see with their own eyes or hear with their own ears....

Wonderful. Hope the trend continues. Who can look at that sonogram of the beating heart of your own child and not be moved to thank God for such a gift?

The CDC reports that the number of abortions performed in Indiana dropped from 11,150 in 2005 to 10,614 in 2006. Not a large drop and no way of knowing how much of it was attributable to the new law. But a small victory is better than a large defeat.
