Um...Resty...that wasn’t an issue in the 1820’s. So therefore, to claim that PCUSA (the liberal Presbyterians not ALL Presbyterians) condoning gay marriage is what Smith said was ‘untrue’ about Presbyterianism is not only Presentism (a bane in historical circles) but just plain laughable.
EPIC EPIC FAIL there Resty.
(Reaganaut, many Lds can't help it. It's coated on throughout Mormonism. The Book of Mormon, after all, is filled with "presentism":
--the religious issues of the day...
...when to baptize;
...camp meeting styles of the 1820s popping up in the BoM;
...the love of quoting Shakespeare a few times;
...the line And because my words shall HISS forthmany of the Gentiles shall say: A aBible! A Bible! We have got a Bible, and there cannot be any more Bible' (2 Nephi 29:3) in supposedly 6th century B.C. when no "Bible" (based upon a Greek word) had been constructed and was 3-5 centuries before even a Greek translation of the OT existed!
(Oh, and don't you love the author of 2 Nephi 29 conceding "my words shall HISS forth"???...I think God made the snake-in-the-grass who appeared in Eden drop some truth-in-advertising hints along the way)
