” ... If they ask us for investigatory assistance, we can certainly consider assisting them. I hadn’t noticed that they had asked ... “

” ... Our own nation is soon facing bankruptcy if not worse. Let’s clean up our own mess before meddling elsewhere without an invitation ... “

I have to believe that the Russian would not have undertaken such an act of war without some confidence that they could contain the blow-back!
My only issue is your use of the term “meddling” with its implied connotation that perusing this is anything less than pursuing our vital national interests.

“I have to believe that the Russian would not have undertaken such an act of war”

You are assuming they did. I agree they had some motive, and the bad character to do it, but the evidence to me strongly suggests a tragic accident.

The discussion of this tragic plane crash somewhat reminds me of the way the “9/11 truthers” approach 9/11. They assume that Bush/Cheney were responsible, and then twist “evidence” to support their conclusion, which cannot be changed. Yes, Putin is quite capable of murder ( http://old.nationalreview.com/comment/comment-satter043002.asp ), but not every bad thing that happens near him was a crime.
