No, the Question Mark was a one-time experiment.

Operational air refueling was a product of the 50’s, when the B-47 and B-52 bombers entering the inventory required AAR to reach destinations in the Soviet Union.

Agreed. The point I was trying to make is, we have been working on it since the 1920's...even before the Question Mark.

The site I linked to has a very comprehensive history of our efforts at air refueling, including a picture of a KC-97 refueling an A-10.

And the Russians have been doing it for nearly 50 years also. You don’t have to look too far to see pictures of Bear-to-Bear in-flight refueling back to the 60’s. They just never made it an operational practice with fighters until recently.
