My grand daughter reports to boot camp next month. Her recruiter said with an 87% retention rate it is hard to get accepted and only women and minorities are even considered. I once applied for Coast Guard OCS and somehow after the interview process my application got lost. I happened to be in the Yorktown area that year, 1979 I think it was, so I dropped by the OCS school and watched them form up. Not a white male in the ranks. I made chief the next year and didn't reapply, probably a good thing as would have been passed over around the Lt to Lt Cmdr level probably (freeper attitude even then) and not made 24 years.

My son applied to the Navy to be a Navy officer. His application was also “lost”.

“Not a white male in the ranks.”
That’s disgusting.
I was watching the PBS broadcast of the Memorial Day concert and the cameraman continuously panned back and forth amnongst veterans, and the vast majority of vets they showed were women...women in Air Force uniforms, sailors, Army, etc., on and on and on, ‘til I began wondering if there were no men present wearing uniforms or were they just being discriminatory in who’s picture they took.
It was an exercise in political correctness, methinks.
