New poll shows Moran,Tiahrt tied in Kansas GOP Senate battle

The Republican Senate contest in Kansas could be much tighter than recent polling has suggested.

Republican Congressmen Todd Tiahrt and Jerry Moran are “statistically tied,” according to an internal Tiahrt campaign poll.

The telephone survey this week of 400 likely Republican primary voters showed Moran ahead, 37 percent to 34 percent, with 26 percent undecided. The margin of error was 4.9 percent.

Campaigns often don’t release internal poll results. It should be noted that they are undertaken by partisan polling operations and should be viewed in that context.

“We feel really good about where the campaign is right now,” said Republican pollster Jim McLaughlin, whose firm, McLaughlin & Associates, conducted the poll. “We were fully expecting that we were possibly down double digits.”

A recent poll by SurveyUSA for KCTV-5 and KWCH in Wichita showed Moran ahead by 20 points.

Moran Spokesman Dan Conston said, “All of the other public independent polls have shown vastly different numbers. I’d be surprised if Todd Tiahrt even believed these numbers.”

The Tiahrt poll also asked how voters viewed the candidates and these results were also close: 46 percent saw Tiahrt as conservative, 20 percent saw him as a moderate and 5 percent said he was a liberal.

Of Moran, 42 percent of the respondents viewed him as a conservative, 23 percent saw him as a moderate and 8 percent said he was a liberal.

Moran and Tiahrt are seeking the seat now held by Republican Sen. Sam Brownback, who is running for governor.

(Tiahrt press release)

This has been a tremendous few weeks for Team Tiahrt! Todd has gained the support from key conservatives from across the state and nation which has added to the momentum of the campaign and energized supporters in every county! First, the Tea Party Express and Karl Rove then Governor Sarah Palin and now Sean Hannity have all endorsed Todd in his race for the U.S. Senate because they recognize the importance of electing a true conservative who is willing to fight for the conservative principles we all share.

Sean Hannity Joined Gov. Sarah Palin by Endorsing Todd for U.S. Senate

Live on his talk radio show, The Sean Hannity Show, Fox News personality, Sean Hannity, endorsed Todd. Hannity is known as one of the most influential conservative voices in America , with over 2.5 million viewers tuning in nightly to watch his Fox News show, Hannity, and The Sean Hannity Show is the number #2 radio program in America , averaging 13.5 million listeners. To listen to the audio clip click here.

The Hannity endorsement came just hours after Todd was endorsed by conservative champion Sarah Palin on Thursday.

Hannity said the following while talking about why he is supporting Todd Tiahrt for the U.S. Senate:

“Sarah Palin endorsed him; Mark Levin endorsed him. A great protector of our Constitution, if you are out in Kansas , you’ve got to pay attention to Todd Tiahrt. He is pro-family, pro-Second Amendment. This is the kind of common sense conservative we need in the U.S. Senate. He’s never voted for a tax increase; He fought to end wasteful spending coming out of Washington .That’s the kind of guy we’re looking for.”

Tiahrt Wins Olathe Straw Poll by a Landslide

The Tiahrt momentum was on full display Saturday in Olathe , where there was a sea of red Tiahrt t-shirts at the 15th Annual Olathe Picnic and Straw Poll. Todd won the straw poll by a landslide victory, defeating Congressman Moran by a 3-1 margin and winning 73 percent of the vote while Moran garnered only 26 percent. Todd received 315 votes to Congressman Moran’s 112. Todd’s statewide grassroots organization and strong support in Johnson County led to his decisive victory and we would like to thank everyone who came out to support Todd and Vicki in the straw poll!

...according to an internal Tiahrt campaign poll.

It was exciting until this part. Publicly-released internal polls by candidates, especially candidates losing by 20 points in a recent poll by the most accurate pollster in America (SurveyUSA), aren't trustworthy.

If Levin supports him then you know exactly where he stands.

Jim DeMint Endorses Jerry Moran

This one puzzles me. It would seem that either Moran or Tiahrt would be great to replace Brownback. Why are the national GOPers battling each other on this race when there are plenty of others around the nation where we need to get behind a clearly more conservative candidate over a more squishy one?

Levin couldn't even pronounce his name correctly.

Moran votes correctly, 90% of the time.
Moran, however, does great harm to conservatives, behind the scenes.
Moran wants to be “liked” by liberals, and the media, and Moran sabotages other conservatives all the time.
Some conservatives, outside of Kansas, did not realize this fact, early on.

With my own ears, I once heard Moran refer to Kansas conservatives as “wingers” -— Moran is NOT our friend.

Tea Heart

Tiahrt

It is difficult until you actually hear it said.

Levin studied (read) about Tiahrt.

Levin supports Tiahrt.

Because most people, though they want things to change, are still stuck in the same old election cycles, taking part in the same old choice between two greedy politicians.

On a side note, I can promise you Demint is more of a conservative than Moran, Tiahrt or Levin all put together.

And Tiahrt is a typical butt kissing politician who has been in DC long enough. Tiahrt bows to unions here because of their voting power. No difference between the two, and no politician is your friend.

Levin is very knowledgeable, and I respect him on that front, but make no mistake, he is a typical elitist. His personality is that of many who currently occupy our White House.

Absolutley. That's why I hope to see him, Mark Levin and Sarah Palin on the same side in any GOP PRIMARY race.

You are far to cynical, and you are also wrong.
Tiahrt is a fighter.
Tiahrt is a supporter of the Right to Work and Tiahrt has fought organized labor, on that issue.
You might not like where Tiahrt stands, on an issue or two, but Tiahrt stands where he says he will stand, and tells the truth about what he believes.

Moran has been a politician FAR longer than Tiahrt, and has been in Washington longer.

Your arguments are illogical.

We have choices to make, Tiahrt is FAR better than Moran.

Also, Tiahrt IS my friend, and he has never let me down.

Ok, that does it.

You are a nut case troll, here to make trouble.

Nobody is perfect.

Tiahrt comes very, very close.
