Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele said the Afghanistan war was of President "Obama's choosing," and that the mission is "probably a lost cause."

Isn’t this what most FReepers believe too? That we oughta get out of Afghanistan? I’ve been arguing in favor of our presence there with numerous others here. Now, when Steele says it, everyone thinks we should stay—?? It seems to me that if Steele said something ultra conservative most FReepers would re-register as liberal Dems just to spite him.
Steele has really proved himself to be a dumba$$.
Now we know why liberal MD rejected him for senator in 2006. He just likes to pop off, and he gets away with it and will continue to pop off.
Steele must be doing some serious drugs to be coming up with these theories. I mean when I first heard about it I thought he was just referring to Obamas BS claims to attack W, about Iraq, say that we should be concentrating on Afghanisttan instead of ever invasing Iraq...But some of the other stuff....It’s like he hasn’t watched the news for the last seven years!
yes, i think it’s called right brainer disease-he always seems to miss the mark and call the Blamester on the wrong issue just barely missing the real mark perhaps Steele is doin’ the bruvvah a favah in hinting not able to tell him the real reasons of course Steele doesn’t want to wake up with a bloody horse head in his bed either heck it’s just so passive-aggressive of Steele why can’t he just come out & say it?
“my brother, you are seriously effin our country up “
Some of us here at FR were against him from the outset.Ken Blackwell should have been RNC chair but conservatives dont get to pick chair of the rnc.
Chairman Steele may be thinking a political advantage could be gained by undermining support for a war our troops are fighting. But, even if there were points to be gained politically, it is despicable to undermine support for victory, be it Republicans or Democrats making such comments.
There are only two ways to end a war, victory or defeat. The only good way to end war is to win it. There is no good way to lose a war.
The way to win war is to beat the will to fight out of the enemy. Defeatist comments like those of Mr. Steele can only serve to make it harder to win. More Americans will die because of Steele’s comments. He should not have said it.
Such political games were rotten to do when Democrats did it, and they are rotten when any Republicans do it.

(((Face palm))) I am not going to waste bandwidth posting a pic even.
The argument to get out is far different than bone-head Steele's comment. Steele is being used as fuel for the small fire that dems have and it's far from necessary when wins are inevitable for conservatives this year. I wish to God that Steele would just go away along with any Bush family member, McCain, Graham, Crist, et al.
He was an affirmative action hire to begin with. Once he is ousted he will turn, no doubt.
“Isnt this what most FReepers believe too? That we oughta get out of Afghanistan? Ive been arguing in favor of our presence there with numerous others here.”
Same here — well at least until several months ago when I had a change of heart. The reason being is that everything Obama touches turns to crap and I don’t want our guys over there in harms way for no good reason. He simply does not care about our military men and women and will put them out there with their hands tied behind their back like being at a turkeyshoot, helpless with no way out.
If Obama cannot win it, which I firmly believe he and his incompentent band of cronies cannot even if they were firmly committed to it and I have my doubts, then we shouldn’t be there.
I can only speak anecdotally but I always had the impression most of us wanted to stay in Afghanistan long enough to at least neutralize the nest of Taliban and Islamic terrorists who are hiding there and across the border in Pakistan. What makes Steele’s statement so idiotic is that this war began as a result of 9/11 and Obama only very reluctantly dragged himself to continue waging it. And to announce to the world that an on-going military conflict is a “lost cause” is worthy of a Jane “Hanoi” Fonda. This war is no more of Obama’s making then Viet Nam was of Herbert Hoover’s! That old saying applies to Steele: You’re entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts.
You know, I’m not being facetious but the same thought struck me too! The reason is that I’ve heard Steele speak with great clarity and logic and articulate conservative political positions very well. But then, to go off-the-wall every once in a while with the most bizarre and crazy notions - makes me wonder!
NO gaffe.
Steele was right.

At least you can post the lower picture. If it was of Bill Clinton you’d be guilty of showing lewd and indecent photos. (At least if it was taken in the Oval Office when Monica was there!)
Steele:
you are a boil on the Republican body and honestly, I wish someone would lance your ass
Look at the bright side. If he were a black Democrat Al Sharpton and Jesse would have tried to incite race riots and burn down D.C.!
