I quite agree. The military is not a monolith either.
In the event of a real national crisis of internal discord, the military and law enforcement entities would fragment.
I think we would end up with something looking more like the Spanish Civil War, if it went violent, or the dissolution of the Soviet Union, if it did not (for the most part) go violent.
I'm more desperate than anything else ... .
Yes, I know it's like a third world country coo ... but if they could RESTORE what should be there, I'm to the point where I would risk that.
