I agree with you. As a Dad of 4 I can remember asking myself - not long ago - the same questions that started this thread. Why can’t we throw this traitor out of our house? I spent a lot of time considering what it would mean if a revolution or a civil war began. Asking myself - what would I do? What would it mean to my children?
I came to the same conclusion you have - My children will be less free and will have more burden than I because of our president and his ilk. For my children to have less than me makes me feel as though I’ve failed them. I’d be willing to do anything to make that up to them.
I mentioned children and grandchildren in my response because they are first and foremost in my own mind. It should be part of the equation for anyone considering the questions that the originator of this thread has asked.
Lets see. I have been a 45% to 50% slave in this “free country”. My kids will be 60 to 70% slave. We are just talking percentages here. At what point (%) do we say we have had enough. The old saw that we are a nation of laws holds sway until exactly what %?
I agree that our civil liberties could be closed down by a process of erosion and the checks and balances that the founders systematically dismantled, a process IMO started by Bush.
But our democracy is far too resilient and our military and judiciary too independent for any kind of scenario like a violent, total closing-down of the system as happened in European fascism with Mussolini or Hitler. When it comes down to it, I don’t think any American would trust anyone with that kind of power. Imposing regulations on the financial industry or whatnot is hardly a full-blown dictatorship. And look at the trend line of support for the president — even among blacks Obama is on shaky ground. November is only four months away. :)

There is a wonderful clarity of mind that comes when one really, truly, works this out.
“Whether the independence of the continent was declared too soon, or delayed too long, I will not now enter into as an argument; my own simple opinion is, that had it been eight months earlier, it would have been much better.”
