The Love Canal debacle and events like it are a travesty, but whining about a hydro dam is plain silly.

So two big Raleigh pols (both Democrats, I assume) are behind an attempt to get the state of North Carolina to out-and-out seize four hydro dams for no other reason than they don’t like Alcoa, did I get it right?

And didn’t Erin Brockovich’s fifteen minutes of fame run out about nine hours ago? She’s still getting $30k an appearance? Yeesh.

I live in Salisbury and frequently go to High Rock Lake which is owned by Alcoa and among those in this dispute. I trust Alcoa to be good stewards of their lakes and dams before I would trust the state. I recall shortly after the Kelo decision a law professor at UNC (or Duke ?) said the NC Constitution didn’t allow for private property to be taken by eminent domain. The article was posted here at FR. This sounds more like an attempt at theift than trying to “protect the enivornment”.
