(CNN) -- A Missouri VA hospital is under fire because it may have exposed more than 1,800 veterans to life-threatening diseases such as hepatitis and HIV.
John Cochran VA Medical Center in St. Louis has recently mailed letters to 1,812 veterans telling them they could contract hepatitis B, hepatitis C and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) after visiting the medical center for dental work, said Rep. Russ Carnahan.
Carnahan said Tuesday he is calling for a investigation into the issue and has sent a letter to President Obama about it.
"This is absolutely unacceptable," said Carnahan, a Democrat from Missouri. "No veteran who has served and risked their life for this great nation should have to worry about their personal safety when receiving much needed healthcare services from a Veterans Administration hospital."

There, fixed it.
Article sounds funny. The HIV virus is pretty vulnerable and almost any cleaning would have killed it. Did the VA employees leave blood on the instruments? HIV would definitely not survive an autoclave.
There are VA patient sites where there has been talk for YEARS of vets getting HIV, Hepatitis, etc. from improperly cleaned colonoscopes.
I have my suspicions. How many of the physicians or dentists involved are muslim? The Houston VA Gastro Dept. is ALL MUSLIM as far as I have seen. I know...I know...a muslim physician going jihadi is almost unthinkable s\.
You realize that jihadi physicians could easily have killed far more wounded vets in our hospitals than we lost on the battlefield.
Where the hell is the VA Inspector General?
Anymore, given this administration's evil actions, I don't even know if I believe this wasn't a deliberate act.
This is awful - and it’s a foretaste of ObamaCare...
“Unlike private hospitals, there was a protocol at the VA to protect whistle blowers. At a private hospital you would have kissed your job good bye.”
I see your point but I can’t believe that in today’s litigious society we wouldn’t see multiple lawsuits against a private hospital by either a wronged whistle blower or one of the infected.
‘’Political correctness’’,,,courtesy of Maos ‘’Little red book.’’ say thanks folks.
On the other hand, being a governmental entity the VA is exempt from lawsuit, and its staff don’t have to care much if stupid mistakes are made.
Jim Rob and Mods we REALLY NEED a new forum topic for Socialized Medicine. It's going to be a very hot topic this fall, and it would be easier if it were under one Forum header topic. Can we please have one?
Yes, the American people will go to their graves believing in “good government” as Anne Frank did believing in the goodness of people as her captors came for her.
They are truly dumb but they are also “well-meaning” and dumb.
So many, so fooled, so long.
And if your vehicle is newer than 17 years old, do NOT park it at the VAH Little Rock....
I tend to agree with your initial comments, however, reports coming out that VA employee who reported this was shit-canned. Trying to find better source, and perhaps should not even say this, as it is raw data. But that’s the story...
