Texas's salt grass marshes used to be burned every fall so the salt grass would grow back in the spring and be tender enough for cows to eat. I am guessing a lot of mosquitoes were killed off when that was done. Late summer and fall are the worst time for mosquitoes down here. Can you guess who stopped that old practice?
