I don't know whether we should think of the people at this site as really Romans (Latin-speakers from Italy)--maybe they were local Celts who happened to be living in a Roman province.
If the Emperor Claudius hadn't gotten the notion to conquer Britain, they could have been living a happy life...and not paying any taxes to Caesar.
