Well, I don’t think any of the illegals want to speak to my 5th or 6th generation LEGAL Hispanic neighbor Sandra. I learned some new four letter words when she talked to some illegal workers.
LOL
Back when I was a kid most of the *Mexicans* I knew didn’t have accents, and I don’t think most of them spoke Spanish. I didn’t think of them as a different race than me. I guess I vaguely knew their families, at some time, had come from Mexico or somewhere further south. Their last names were mostly Spanish, but not all of them. It wasn’t really much of an issue. I know there was some name calling between kids (as there always is), but I don’t think there was the level of animosity there is today. There seemed to be a lot of dating back and forth and lots of my friends married Mexican guys/girls. I just don’t recall it being a thing people thought that much about if you were in the same economic strata. I think this is a created issue.
