Why the DoJ lawyer in charge of the New Black Panther Party case resigned
American Thinker ^ | June 28, 2010 | George Picard

Posted on 06/28/2010 12:07:46 PM PDT by jazusamo

One of the more high profile miscarriages of justice occurred in November, 2008 when members of the radical group the New Black Panthers Party gathered in front of a polling location in Philadelphia and varying truncheons and intimidated voters entering the polling booths to vote for Barack Obama (see this video ).

The case was a clear cut violation of federal law. But when Barack Obama and Eric ("we are a nation of cowards" when discussing race) Holder entered office, the case was inexplicably dropped.

The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights has been investigating the dismissal since then and was stonewalled for over a year by the DOJ. The powers that be at DOJ ordered its lawyers not to comply with subpoenas issued by the Commission, and to ignore request to testify by Congress. Strange for a department headed by a man who decried fellow Americans for refusing to discuss issues of race to order Justice attorneys to remain silent on this racially-tinged case.

One of the attorneys involved in prosecuting the New Black Panthers Party, J. Christian Adams, has resigned in protest and explained why in this op-ed:

Based on my firsthand experiences, I believe the dismissal of the Black Panther case was motivated by a lawless hostility toward equal enforcement of the law. Others still within the department share my assessment. The department abetted wrongdoers and abandoned law-abiding citizens victimized by the New Black Panthers. The dismissal raises serious questions about the department's enforcement neutrality in upcoming midterm elections and the subsequent 2012 presidential election.

[...]

The assistant attorney general for civil rights, Tom Perez, has testified repeatedly that the "facts and law" did not support this case. That claim is false. If the actions in Philadelphia do not constitute voter intimidation, it is hard to imagine what would, short of an actual outbreak of violence at the polls. Let's all hope this administration has not invited that outcome through the corrupt dismissal.

Most corrupt of all, the lawyers who ordered the dismissal - Loretta King, the Obama-appointed acting head of the Civil Rights Division, and Steve Rosenbaum - did not even read the internal Justice Department memorandums supporting the case and investigation. Just as Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. admitted that he did not read the Arizona immigration law before he condemned it, Mr. Rosenbaum admitted that he had not bothered to read the most important department documents detailing the investigative facts and applicable law in the New Black Panther case. Christopher Coates, the former Voting Section chief, was so outraged at this dereliction of responsibility that he actually threw the memos at Mr. Rosenbaum in the meeting where they were discussing the dismissal of the case. The department subsequently removed all of Mr. Coates' responsibilities and sent him to South Carolina.

[...]

Most disturbing, the dismissal is part of a creeping lawlessness infusing our government institutions. Citizens would be shocked to learn about the open and pervasive hostility within the Justice Department to bringing civil rights cases against nonwhite defendants on behalf of white victims. Equal enforcement of justice is not a priority of this administration. Open contempt is voiced for these types of cases.

The Bush administration was derided by liberal elites as simpletons who saw the world in terms of black and white (evil or not evil; adversaries or allies). George Bush was criticized for declaring he did not do "nuance".

Now we have a team in charge of enforcing our laws who actually do see the world in terms of black and white (or victims and victimizers).

We have (or had) lawyers who were sworn to uphold the law, regardless of the race or ethnicity of victims or suspects. That principle has been gutted by officials who happily yank down the blindfold that wraps over Lady Justice's eyes and instead apply the law in a discriminatory manner.

This is not a one-off either. The Justice Department also bent the rules to favor the election of black Democratic candidates in Kinston, North Carolina.

The Department of Justice has become one of the most politicized departments of government in the Obama era. But it is far from the only one that is being subverted to fulfill an agenda. We are being ruled by a government that wholeheartedly believes in an ideology that would be condemned as racist if whites were bending the laws to favor themselves. Instead, most media outlets are strangely silent when the reverse is true and when "racial spoils" are shamelessly given out by more than one division of the executive branch (See "Racial Spoils in Obama's America" ).

Justice is supposed to be blind (and is not in this case) - but journalists, political leaders, lawyers?

How about President Obama who recited as the Presidential Oath of Office to "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States"? (Holder gave a similar oath when he assumed his office-and then declared it was a "new day" for the DOJ. He sure got that right)

Wasn't this the same man who famously declared:

Well, I say to them tonight, there's not a liberal America and a conservative America - there's the United States of America. There's not a black America and white America and Latino America and Asian America; there's the United States of America.

But that was in 2004 and Barack Obama was all but beginning his campaign to be President. Now that he is President, we see the inner Obama emerge and it is not a pretty sight-not at all.

They know what they are doing. They don’t care what you think. America has entered a dark period.

This is truly the most disgusting and contemptible federal admin. in our history. The Obozo-in-Chief and his thuggish hacks need to be sent packing in 2010 and 2012 (first his Congressional cover/support/protection in 2010, and then in 2012 the Obozo himself along with “Joe Bite-Me” and the whole loathsome gang). Not to mention any RINOs who are in the underpants of the Obama gang....

Well said...The testimony of Christian Adams before the US Commission on Civil Rights on July 6 is going to be very interesting. It may blow this thing wide open and hopefully another person in the DOJ will have the courage to back up what he says.

Obama is setting back race relations in this country by at least 100 years, and that is a terrible shame.

The Department of Justice won’t stop the Black Panthers, the press won’t report it and the United States of America we have known dies a quick death.

You're correct...There's been over 60 articles posted here since this miscarriage of justice started and not one article is from any of the three.

You’re right, the enemedia won’t cover the story. However, The Washington Times, Fox News and Main Justice has and the US Commission on Civil Rights has kept this story alive, it’s not over yet.

The NBPP are the official 'Brownshirt's' of Hussein's vanguard. Get ready Amerika, this pun, or play on words is the first installent of Hussein's untouchable goosestepping stooges.

All over the ghetto's of this country gangs, crime bosses and degenerate outcasts are being carefully organized for revolution. Hussein's refused to complete the border fence importing thousands of military specialists into the United States from Hamas, Hezbulla and anarchist's movements worldwide. They are here to sow distrust, mayhem and dysorder across these United States.

This has all happened before. Martial law is Hussein's endgame.

There's an excellent 14 min video in this thread posted earlier today of Christian Adams being interviewed by Pajamas Media and Adams addresses the hostility at DOJ voting rights division towards bringing voting rights or discrimination cases against minorities.

Each and every media source that REFUSED to print the truth to the American people should be tried and sent to prison, when the time comes, for their part in this massive attempt to turn this country into a socialist society. I hope I live long enough to see them get what they deserve. Unitil then, not one cent of mine will go to their coffers, and I will voice my deep disgust for this despicable, complicit media whenever and wherever I can.

Not me. I never would have voted for the fake in a million years. It was clear to me he was lying all through his campaign.
