Russia, once the largest importer of U.S. chicken, has agreed to lift a five-month-old ban on the meat after talks between presidents Barack Obama and Dmitry Medvedev.
U.S. exports of chicken to Russia plunged 84 percent in the four months ended April 30 from a year earlier. The price of U.S. wholesale chicken legs, a major export to Russia, fell 27 percent in the past year.
We will have to comply with the same requirements that are being used for Russian poultry producers, said Sumner, whose Stone Mountain, Georgia-based trade group represents 90 percent of U.S. poultry and egg exporters. Chicken producers are in the process of switching over their plants to the new products. Several plants have already completed this process.
Its odd, when youre sitting in historic meetings with your Russian counterpart, to spend time talking about chicken, Obama said. But our ability to get resolved a trade dispute around poultry -- that is a multibillion-dollar export for the United States -- was an indication of the seriousness with which President Medvedev and his team take all of these trade and commercial issues.

Wow! What a foreign policy guru..
Amazing how the lame stream media had ignored this story a few months ago when Russia banned our chicken. This administration is shaming us in so many ways...it will take some time to get our place back in the world.
...in return for WHAT? What are we giving the Russians this time?
Bet the cows are happy.
Bet the cows are happy.
Bet the cows are happy.
A whole chicken is approaching $10 around here. Wonder if this will help ease prices? May bring more producers on line.
We eat the breasts and the Russians eat the legs.
That's been omitted. Well, they say about not using chlorine and that's all.
“Well, they say about not using chlorine and that’s all”
Chlorine...how?
(I don’t trust this administration AT ALL with regard to foreign policy...or much of anything else for that matter.)
My basic understanding is that most big poultry producers in the United States do put their chicken in chlorine baths to decontaminate it.
Actually I was thinking Obama will instead start shipping Gulf coast sea products.
Interesting. Do these people not realize that ordinary tap water often contains chlorine?
Well, they've been properly decontaminated, no doubt. On the other hand, delivering oil to Russia isn't a good business idea.
Watch for any connections to Obama and shipments of contaminated sea food from the Gulf to other countries.
Benzene shrimp anyone?
When invaders invaded a country in histories pages it was common to rape and pillage.
Obama has indeed invaded America and is raping Americans and performing acts of sack and pillage.
The US poultry industry is ready to meet the demands, anyway.
The US poultry was the cheapest meat on the Russian market several years ago. It was commonly known as "Bush's legs". Than tariffs were imposed.
The lift is likely a repayment for something.
I suspect that there is a lot more to this than meets the eye at present.
i am amazed....he saved the chicken farmers.....the man is a genius....(not)
