The amount declared as it leaves the airport is vast in a nation where the gross domestic product last year totaled $13.5 billion. More declared cash flies out of Kabul each year than the Afghan government collects in tax and customs revenue nationwide. "It's not like they grow money on trees here," said a U.S. official investigating corruption and Taliban financing. "A lot of this looks like our tax dollars being stolen. And opium, of course."

Interesting article. Money goes through Dubai which is Afghanistan's money center. VIP money goes out unchecked.

So much graft they are literally flying it out by the plane load. That’s what happens when you start tossing around numbers like a couple hundred billion here and a couple hundred billion there.

They will milk the USA cash cow until Barry pulls the troops out and then they will take off for the French Riveria to live out their remaining days in luxury, courtesy of the American taxpayer.

::::::::::::::

Yes, this is symptomatic of our dysfunctional, unaccountable government that throws money at any objective and NEVER holds the recipients accountable. It runs in the federal blood — “who cares, its not MY money, so why should I worry.” It just looks and sounds good that the American taxpayer has sacrificed AGAIN for another federal boondoggle. I have never heard of a Washington scoundrel from any level, ever dying in poverty....the rest is obvious. No need to wonder why these thugs want to get reelected so badly, right? It certainly is not just for the salary.

Actually, though, is 3 billion over three years that much money? They don’t have a normal banking system, so hawala is the banking system.

The officials believe hawala customers who have sent millions of dollars of their money abroad include high-ranking officials and their associates in President Hamid Karzai’s administration, including Vice President Mohammed Fahim, and one of the president’s brothers, Mahmood Karzai, an influential businessmen. Where they allegedly get the money is one of the questions under investigation.

Mahmood Karzai, an American citizen, blamed the allegations that he was transferring illicitly earned cash from Afghanistan on political opponents. “Yes, millions of dollars are leaving this country but it is all taken by politicians. Bribes, corruption, all of it,” he said. “But let’s find out who is taking it. Let’s not go on rumors. I’ve said this to the Americans.”

Why don’t you put your spreadsheets and other info on a CD, go to a public computer (community college library, local library) and publish it on docstoc or scribd, using a brand new yahoo anonymous email account.

Then tell your FRiends to post the links here and everywhere.

Kabul's probably using the Madoff MO--- Madoff's assets included a labyrinth of interrelated international funds, institutions and entities of almost unparalleled complexity and breadth...... with assets and businesses in 11 separate places overseas.

========================================

Wall Street knows how to make money disappear faster than a cream puff at a Weight Watcher weigh-in.

COS Rahm Emanuel took control of the US Treasury when he crept into our WH. "Professor" Obama knows nothing about high finance----but Rahm toiled on Wall Street before coming into government (Congressman for 4 terms, Clinton henchman and Fannie Mae looter).

Behind The Real Size of the Wall Street Bailout (more like $14 trillion)
Mother Jones | Dec. 21, 2009 / FR Posted January 04, 2010 by E. Pluribus Unum

A guide to the abbreviations, acronyms, and obscure programs that make up the $14 trillion federal bailout of Wall Street.

The price tag for the Wall Street bailout is often put at $700 billion—the size of the Troubled Assets Relief Program. But TARP is just the best known program in an array of more than 30 overseen by Treasury Department and Federal Reserve that have paid out or put aside money to bail out financial firms and inject money into the markets. To get a sense of the size of the real $14 trillion bailout, see our chart here. Below, a guide to the pieces of the puzzle:

Treasury Department bailout programs (controlled by Rahm Emanuel)

Money Market Mutual Fund: In September 2008, the Treasury announced that it would insure the holdings of publicly offered money market mutual funds. According to the Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (SIGTARP), these guarantees could have potentially cost the federal government more than $3 trillion [PDF].

Public-Private Investment Fund: This joint Treasury-Federal Reserve program bought toxic assets from banks and brokerages—as much as $5 billion of assets per firm. According to SIGTARP, the government's potential exposure from the PPIF is between $500 million and $1 trillion [PDF].

TARP: As part of the Troubled Asset Relief Program, the Treasury has made loans to or investments more than 750 banks and financial institutions. $650 billion has been paid out (not including HAMP; see below). As of December 21, 2009, $117.5 billion of that has been repaid. Government-sponsored enterprise (GSE) stock purchase: The Treasury has bought $200 million in preferred stock from Fannie Mae and another $200 million from Freddie Mac [PDF] to show that they "will remain viable entities critical to the functioning of the housing and mortgage markets." GSE mortgage-backed securities purchase: Under the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008, the Treasury may buy mortgage-backed securities from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. According to SIGTARP, these purchases could cost as much as $314 billion [PDF].

Federal Reserve bailout programs

Commercial Paper Funding Facility: With the support from the Treasury, the Fed established the CPFF in October 2008 to increase the availability of short-term debt (commercial paper) funding. Up to $1.8 trillion [PDF] was earmarked for the program.

Mortgage-backed securities purchase: In 2009, the Fed earmarked up to $1.25 trillion to buy investments based on home loans.

Term Asset-Backed Securities Loan Facility: TALF provides financing to investors who are buying asset-backed securities. In February 2009, the Fed and Treasury announced an expansion of the program to generate up to $1 trillion in new lending.

Foreign Central Bank Currency Liquidity Swaps: The Fed has provided $755 billion [PDF] for currency liquidity swaps with foreign central banks.

=============================================

DID GANGSTER GOVERNMENT SCAM $14 TRILLION USING THE MADOFF MO? Madoff created a supersecret labyrinth of interrelated international funds, institutions and financial entities of almost unparalleled complexity and breadth......with assets and businesses in multiple places overseas that hid thievery, money launderering and tax evasion.

At least half a dozen people in the Obama admin are going to walk away from “ Public Service “ living like the Sultan of Brunei.

Keep in mind that Madoff was running multiple scams with the knowledge and consent of wealthy businessman:

(1) a Ponzi fraud that made him and his family personally wealthy;

(2) laundering tax-free money from "foundations and charities" of wealthy "philanthropists,"

(3) IRS fraud facilitation for wealthy businessmen;

(4) a protection racket (shielding his investors from federal scrutiny);

(5) laundering tax-free money that was destined for Democrat candidates (campaign fraud).

Yasser Arafat showed the way for Muslim dictators everywhere. The tricky things are what country do you stash the loot in and when exactly do you cut and run.

Air lifted pallets of cash being dropped over the Greek island of Siphnos.

Mahmod Karzai recently purchased the island from Greece after Greece started selling some of its islands in an effort to ease Greece's cash crunch.

Frankly Scarlett...

Not to be SO flip, but I found the Gaza contributions to Obama in the election and that didn’t amount to a hill of beans either. Well, Atlas Shrugs did get a good exclusive (love Pam)...

Not so interested in putting another minute into it.

I’ve spent weeks thus far.

Brings up an interesting point.

Why couldn’t they just ‘wire’ the money out of Afghanistan ?

Why did they have to take it out physically and drop it out of the back of cargo planes ?
