Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va., has been admitted to a Washington area hospital and his doctors have described his condition as "seriously ill." Byrd was admitted to the hospital late last week suffering from what was believed to be heat exhaustion and severe dehydration as a result of the extreme temperatures. He was expected to remain in the hospital not more than a few days. However, upon further examination by his doctors, other conditions have developed which has resulted in his condition being described as "serious." Additional details will be released only as they become available.
Thank you.
Maybe he’ll see some pretty, pretty, pretty window trimmings where he is going.
Hmm... I always thought the appointee would only serve until the next election, whether the previous senator’s term was up or not. I could be wrong though.
“longest serving senator in American history.”
Not exactly what our Founding Fathers had in mind.
And—the only klansman in the senate—a democrat. Imagine that.
Is Byrd the last Klanner that the Rats have left in Congress?
Lord, this man has led an apparently wicked life. I hope he finds You.
If this be divine intervention in the U.S. Senate, SO BE IT!
And God Bless, America...
I just came back from a Mooresfield through Franklin area day trip to see the train show in Petersburg. Holy cow, what is left to name after RCB after he dies? You are so right...buildings, bridges, parks. They are everywhere you look. All that was left was “RCB dangerous a$$ mountain road in the middle of nowhere”
Depends. Are there any good golf courses in West Virginia?
He had a full life, and was a very successful man. May he RIP.
Shi*, dog, you think it's hot NOW???!?
“he is one of the few libs with any stature that shouted about the Executive stealing authority from the Congress.”
Had he been in good health, the Senate never could have used reconciliation to head off a filibuster on health care reform.
On a related point, I hope the man dies peacefully or recovers without incident. That said, given that this happened in 2010, I was SO wishing this had happened prior to the final passage of health care reform.
If so, maybe someone would have had the decency to say “In memory of our fine friend and colleague Robert Byrd, we CANNOT in good conscience disgrace his memory by dishonorably employing the use of reconciliation in a manner he would find both illegal and deeply offensive.”
The Christian faith does not permit this. I'm not sure which ones do - Islam, maybe?
In response to the middle comment, God does permit us to pray for God's judgement upon those that do not keep the law, basically we should pray for blessing on those that keep God's law and cursing upon those that don't, it one of those things the majority of loving self esteem Churches don't want to recognize in the Bible, or it's not in their holely swiss cheese bible. As far as praying for a miserable painful end I haven't found anything in the Bible about that yet.
Can’t stand the man’s career or politics but will say a prayer for his recovery and his soul.
Mr. Byrds absence could pose a challenge to Senate Democrats as they try to pass the financial overhaul bill and win other procedural battles in the week before the Independence Day recess. With the midterm elections on the horizon, Washington is polarized and Democrats will need every vote they can get.
Well jeez, I was taught that you shouldn’t say anything bad about the dying....that being said, I did just put champagne on ice - just in case.....
I wish the same thing for Byrd that I wish for anyone else. May he get what he deserves.
