If I remember the facts correctly from the old Atomic Energy Commission book (released to the public), a weapon in the range of 9 Megatons will ignite forest fires in a 10-mile radius from the explosion site. I remember that the real Armageddon qualities of a U.S.-Russian nuclear exchange would come from widespread forest fires which could not be stopped—there wouldn’t be enough firefighting equipment.
