Israeli top spy, Meir Dagan, is stepping down. According to local TV station Channel 2, Dagan, who was appointed as head of Mossad in 2002, requested to continue another year in the role, but was refused by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Sources tell Fox News that the main reason for Netanyahus decision is the international criticism following the January assassination of Hamas commander Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in Dubai, which was widely believed to be carried out by Mossad agents using forged foreign passports. Israel never responded to the allegations made by Dubai Police regarding the case.
According to the report, Dagan successor will be a person from within the organization. Fox News has learned that among the candidates Dagans former deputy and two current heads of Mossad units, Tevel and Tzomet. Another name that was mentioned, current head of Israeli Shin Bet, Yuval Diskin.
An official announcement is expected in a few weeks.

His guys got caught. For a spy there is no worse failure. It was not the killing of terrorists in other countries that was the problem, after all that is his job. It was that he did it in such a way that it caused an international incident. When a spymaster does his job correctly, you aren't sure he has done anything at all. If you know enough to reasonably debate the wisdom of something a spymaster has done, he has already lost the battle.

Well stated,
one only leaves the Mossad in a horizontal box, Dagan will still be instrumental in back office operations... he will still have a secure phoneline in his living room.
further, Dagan has stated publically on international TV in an English language interview that he will not leave Israel for fear of arrest, that he is Mossad until the day he dies.
Wait for Avigdor’s statement on this...
