Karl Rove Building The Right’s Answer To The Soros-Led Democracy Alliance
David Horowitz's NewsReal Blog ^ | Matthew Vadum

Bush political advisor Karl Rove, whom leftists consider to be a Snidely Whiplash-like figure, is reportedly putting together a group on the right to be an answer to the George Soros-led Democracy Alliance.

Politico reports on the developing group, referring to it as

a massive fundraising, organizing and advertising machine based on the model assembled by Democrats early in the decade, and with the same ambitious goal — to recapture Congress and the White House.

Also involved is former GOP chairman Ed Gillespie. “Where they have a chess piece on the board, we need a chess piece on the board,” he said. “Where they have a queen, we shouldn’t have three pawns.”

Although the article says Republicans are trying to “replicate” the Democracy Alliance, the as yet unnamed group isn’t quite the same. Democracy Alliance has teams of professionals directing operations, but it’s not clear how the new group is operating in terms of its internal structure.

The mission of the low-profile Democracy Alliance is to build a lasting political infrastructure of think tanks, activist groups, leadership schools, and media outlets to help the left gain and keep power. It was created by high-dollar Democratic donors –Soros, Peter B. Lewis, Herb and Marion Sandler– after Democrats failed to reclaim power in the 2004 election — despite favorable polls and record contributions by high-dollar donors.

Sounds like a bunch of rich Democrats think they can “buy” political power without considering what the voters actually want.

Silly idea.

"RIP, GOP."

I don't dislike Karl Rove or Ed Gillespie. However this is a misguided attempt of the GOP to replicate what the left with George Soros is doing.

We have the Tea-Party which can accomplish the same thing without being underhanded about it. All we need is a good Republican Candidate who has the endorsement of the Tea-Party to defeat the Democrat's Candidate on a race by race basis.

Did not Rove give us Bush Jr., one of the main reasons we have “The Wizard of O”. Just sayin’.

All we need is a good Republican Candidate . . .

No. We need a multitude of electable Conservative candidates who are willing to stand for their principles in the face of a concerted onslaught by the media, unions, enviro-tyrants, Marxists and others on the rabid left.

Who is up for the task?

Not exactly. The Tea-Party's forte is grass-roots political activism. But there are other necessary components as well when it comes to establishing and maintaining. A big one is formal training in political leadership and mechanics/organizing - such as is done with Blackwell's "Leadership Institute". Another one is big $$$ fundraising - which is a political necessity given that Obama and the other Dem candidates and organizations were able to raise well over a BILLION dollars (probably closer to two) in the 2008 cycle. This allowed Obama to ditch Federal financing and spend many times more than McCain was able to.

The Conservative "Movement" has most of the pieces - is probably lacking the most in fundraising coordination and capability. What's missing is an umbrella function to help tie them all together. I'm not talking about centralization of authority in a command-structure hierarchy, but rather a function that helps and facilitates the different groups in establishing common goals and collaborating with each other.

Exactly right. We need something bigger than the Tea Party Movement. But we do need candidates that will attract the Tea Party voters. I am afraid the Democrats and RINOs have co-opted the Tea Party and are trying to pass themselves off as having the support of the movement. But I like Roves idea.

Elect “outsiders”. If media hates them, that is the first clue you have a winner!
Don’t give money to party’s but rather candidates you believe in.

won’t work if this group are run by a bunch of big government rinos who support subsiding businesses, like farms and big financials

Sarah Palin and all those girls she's endorsing around the country.

Most of them, anyway. :)

If Bush had not won the first time-we would have had Gore.
If Bush had not won the second time-we would have had Kerry. So pick you poison. I’ll take Bush, thank you.
He was an American, and a Christian, and some-what
a free marketeer. The Republican voters are responsible
for our own candidates not one guy called Rove.

You are either blind or purposely not keeping up. I suppose there is a third possibility - a troll trying to discourage conservatives.
