Actually I live in Oklahoma (though I was born in Arkansas). When I go to California almost everyone I meet is Hispanic, Chinese, Vietnamese, or Okie. So I figure the dust bowl relocation is starting to wear thin and we’ll a whole lot of ‘em coming home soon.
Strange—I was born in the USA and taught to love my country. How come I now find my country turned into a pig pen less and less recognizable to what the founders envisioned? The only way to maintain my patriotism, it seems, is to recall what America was,not what she is and will be even more of in the future. Its enough to make one weep.

It's grotesque. To think they want their kids to see such things that many adults avoid. And to wit, when straight parents expose their kids to such, and it's discovered (as it's generally not a parade and week long celebration) it's at least investigated for the kids sake.
I had read (and will try to find post) an article that some in San Fran have said 'enough' - a group of gay and straight parents who don't want their kids routinely exposed this way.
The case of Julia Lira and the effort to make her a carnival queen had caused controversy because the role is usually reserved for sultry models in bikinis.
Children's rights groups argued that the role was too erotic for a young girl. But Julia's father, Marco, who is president of Viradouro, says she will bring fresh, innocent energy to the parade.
This tactic comes from the above - a 7 year old girl heading an adult parade.
The problem gays have is no one really cares about their protest anymore - even the press is yawning. I don't think this is about "children" persae - it's about "screaming for attention - LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!".
