Whooping cough is now an epidemic in California, and is on pace to break a 50-year record for infections and deaths for the year.
As of June 15, California had 910 recorded cases of the highly contagious disease, and five babies -- all under 3 months of age -- have died from the disease this year.
This year's surge in whooping cough cases, which is also known as pertussis, is a fourfold increase from the same period last year, when 219 cases were recorded.
At least 600 additional cases of pertussis are currently under investigation by local health departments.
Health officials say whooping cough is cyclical and tends to peak every two to five years.
A typical case of the disease starts with a cough and runny nose for one to two weeks, followed by weeks or months of rapid coughing fits that sometimes end with a whooping sound. Fever is rare.

The dirty secret is that the uptick in contraction of infectious diseases is largely due to the fact that we no longer screen immigrants coming into the country. Kind of hard when illegals don’t go through proper channels.
This is happening with many diseases, including hepatitis and TB - the latter of which was at one point considered virtually eradicated.
There is no way that this was caused by illegals.
Your point “Strange because Im pretty sure our kids were vaccinated against this, are these all unvaccinated children?” is good
babies get the first whooping cough vaccine (pertussis DTaP) at 2 mons.
This is an amazing story and of course they left out the details.
Maybe brought over by Swedish immigrants.
TB had been eradicated in the US until homosexuals—AIDS patients—brought it back. Now we can thank illegals for whooping cough. Th fact that none of this has been pointed out by the MSM is undoubtedly just an oversight, soon to be corrected.
The influx of aliens giving their bacteria and viral particles Americans won’t give!
Maybe ILLEGAL ALIENS?
Thank obama and the illegals he’s allowing to stay.
We get so many crazy diseases out here that we thought we had eradicated. Not long ago, it was TB at the local high school.
Can’t imagine where it’s all coming from . . .
Don’t forget squirrelly libs that think vaccinations are a plot to make you sick.
Yep, you are right, clearly these are illegal aliens spreading this as I knew our kids were vaccinated against this. Now here’s the kicker, these folks are picking your produce, your lettuce, will poor bathroom facilities and poor hand washing facilities and you don’t cook alot of the food they pick, let lettuce, strawberries and so on ..
We handle the the food we don’t cook in the most dangerous kind of way, hand picked by those with no vaccinations and parasitical diseases brought up from South America
They’re just spreading the communicable diseases Americans can’t be bothered to spread.
unvaccinated and illegals bringing it here.
Who is the blonde?
Why does an unvaccinated person pose a threat to a vaccinated person?
IIRC there was an article recently about how adults can harbor the disease and recommending a booster for the vaccine received soooooo long ago.
I think I have whopping cough last winter all they gave me at doctor is more antibotics
Thank you our undocuemted population
Well, then there’s an upside to this - if it rids us of some libs. Every cloud does have a silver lining.
Well I hear on KFI radio news that some of the cases come from parents who don’t believe in vaccine and our illegal population
There was report that came out few weeks ago on KFI Radio news
I had Whooping Cough in the mid fifties when we lived in Northern (U.P.)Michigan. 91 days of coughing blood, and several gallons of putrid home remedies (plus Mom telling me to “quit coughing like a dog!”) got me well. Mom got it a couple of days later.
