Certainly the left doesn't need any excuses to hate a conservative. But my theory about who many others may dislike her is her voice. There is some kind of accent - the way she pronounces her “a”s or something - that I am not accustomed to hearing from an elected official. But I think somehow a sizable portion of the public hears that voice and decides she is “stupid,” which she most certainly is not. Something about the voice is somehow associated with “ditziness,” again very unfairly in my opinion. She is who she is.

Similarly, some people I have talked to seem to latch on to Obama’s “cool, detached” style and make judgments about his policies and performance based on that. It seems ridiculous to believe that people won't think someone is a hard-left ideologue if they are not ranting and shouting like Castro and Chavez, but I do believe that is the case for some people.

They say Lincoln would never have been elected if there were radio or television back in his day. Go figure.
